Patreon and rape content.

Let's say that a friend of mine is working on a game. That game contains really hardcore femdom, maledom, and even some rapeplay (two consenting adults having a roleplay fantasy where one is raped by the other and that is specific in the game dialogue and text). Like stuff that is not rape but . . .you know it could be interpreted that way because of the implication (Like a girl gets pumped out of aphrodisiacs, a man and his girlfriend began to fuck her and she is like . . . "Wait", "How you dare", etc). How dangerous is that stuff and is there a huge chance of getting banned for it? Could this "friend" have the Patreon up without the links to the game in question if that is the case? Since in that case there is no such content on their platform. Look, let's be honest, I just want to know if there is a way to work around that rule for my "friend" game by removing any direct mention of rape.

I could be wrong but I don't believe many games are removed for rape from patreon.

It just doesn't seem to be as big of an issue when compared with the unholy trinity of bestiality, loli and incest that they tolerate much less.

I mean, S.H.E.L.T.E.R. is on Patreon and that game has a lot of "totally not rape". Also, I have read some stuff like web novels that had literally rape on them like full nonstop shit but they are still there. I was just wondering if they are more exigent with games.

EDIT: Also I think that the game that comes into mind for getting banned because of rape was Lilith Throne but that game had also a ton of incest.

Your "friend" should ask Patreon. It would be terrible if your "friend" got everything up and going, start building subscribers and then all of us sudden have their account frozen, at the minimum, and possibly removed/banned and then have to rebuild somewhere else. The content you are mentioning that your "friend" is wanting to create could be considered in violation of Community Standards and/or Terms of Use and while some people have flown under the radar, others have been blocked within a short period of time.

Is there a legitimate reason why your "friend" doesn't just use Subscribestar or another service (besides the "but Patreon has more people on it")?

S.H.E.L.T.E.R. doesn't have a rape tag here, nor in their genre list and I would assume they don't promote that content on Patreon if it is in their game.

Also, from : We understand that some topics on this list such as incest or rape are a little bit more complicated because these situations are, unfortunately, part of real life. As a result, when reviewing these types of creations, the Trust and Safety team will take into consideration context including personal, historical or educational narrative. For example, survivor stories or fiction such as Lolita are allowed on Patreon.

Just because you might be aware of non-allowed content on Patreon doesn't mean that they don't care. It can simply mean they aren't aware of its existence. A lot of their enforcement is based upon reports of content violations. All it takes is one disgruntled fan who thinks your "friend" is a fuckwit, a milker, or something similar and they'd file a report.

Well yes, Patreon has more people on it so my friend would like that. Also, the main method that my friend has to get money from the exterior to his country is by Paypal so Subscribestar would really fuck him on that front. This friend had used other methods like Ko-fi for nutty stuff but is mostly just a "hey, send me money using this platform" kinda deal instead of posting stuff there. So basically he can gamble on Patreon or just eat shit. And yes, in S.H.E.L.T.E.R you drug women to fuck them so that is rape but not like . . .rape rape

Rape for titillation is a no-go. If you are making a porn/'adult' game, everything will be seen through the lens of titillation. The only time rape is allowed is if it's PURELY for plot reasons, a survivor's story. Convincing them that's the case in a porn game would be hard, especially in your circumstances.

If anything, replace the rape-play with just rough-play using drugs to improve the situation and you should be good.

No, it is clearly not the case of rape = ban. There are plenty of games with rape on Patreon, whether it's through blackmail, drugs, mind control or whatever and many of these projects have been going for years so it's also unlikely that Patreon staff aren't aware of their existence.
Out of the bigger titles which I played: Corrupted Kingdoms, Claire's Quest, Third Crisis, Kingdom of Deception, Pink Tea's games, Akabur games, Defenestration and probably a few others.

Yes, that is my main "Coping" logic. Is like "is not illegal unless you piss someone". I mean, is like any job. You piss your boss and for whatever reason he can fire you and if he doesn't have a reason to fire you, he will find one.

Tons of stuff gets by on Patreon. Unless you do something to draw attention to yourself. You're pretty safe. Don't discuss or show banned content openly on your Patreon page; you should be fine.

Especially if you're making big $$, there are multiple games that get a lot of hate here for being slow/scammers. But their Patreon is still up despite content blatantly breaking the rules in their games. Surely some pissed-off person has reported them but seems that Patreon will turn a blind eye if you're big enough.

With the current state of the world and competition in the self-funding space, Patreon needs you as much as you need them. Don't give them a good reason and I wouldn't worry.

And there's always Subscribe Star as a fallback. They'll let you do almost anything.

Yea, basically my plan was to tell my friend to make it so the Patreon is not about the game but about himself and having all the special stuff on another site like Discord. Even the link to the game is not on the site so is more obscure. So there is nothing on the site as an extra layer of security and Patreon is not giving money to a game with " Struggle Snuggle " but to a person that is doing a lot of stuff with the money and one of the things is that game. Just create enough layers of inconsistency and doubt so is not worthy banning you. And if he gets banned, well, that is life.

as far as I remember patreon's policy on noncon is that ANYTHING preventing clear informed consent is bannable. so not just basic rape but also any kind of judgement impairing substances etc. qualify as rape. this has been the basis for shutting down sleep sex in many many games.

basically they're going with the real world definition. I think they've even said as much? something along the lines of ANYTHING considered abuse or demeaning towards women IRL being bannable.

just because there may be games that break their TOS doesn't mean shit in this regard. the second someone burns those games they get canned and go 'under review'. which means patreon shutting down your page and requesting removal or changing all offending scenes until everything is within their guidelines again.

having offending material on a 3rd party site is explicitly forbidden on patreon as well.

I mean, like I said before. There are a ton of games there were there for a long time breaking Patreon policy and they are there for years and nothing bad had happened to them. And there are not just a few, there are tons of games that break that policy. Is basically a game of chance or how bad it makes Patreon looks, like for example a game showing that stuff like in the title or the main page. You just need to throw the dice and pray that your game doesn't get fucked.

Yes, that is why I basically made this post. "He" wanted to know the difference between the theoretical patron policy and the realistic one and know he has a general idea about it.
The de facto Patreon policy is that Patreon will ban you and steal all your money if they get too many reports or chargebacks or just don't like the cut of your jib. They are a monopoly, they don't need you, you need them.
