Patreon image upload error

Hi everyone!
Did someone experience any issue with uploading images on Patreon's About page recently?
For me it used to work perfectly when adding links to images stored in IMGUR, but now regardless if the album is hidden or public, it creates an error with question mark symbol.
I wrote to Patreon with the same question, and they told that due to abuse of Imgur's terms of service ( ) they prohibit using Imgur as a content delivery network and hotlinking images for commercial purposes. Basically since we use Patreon for commercial purpose, we can't use services such as Imgur to store our images for Patreon any more.
How do you go around this issue? Is there any trick I don't know in order to upload pictures on the Patreon's About page? Or are there any other compatible sources?
Thanks guys!

I use
I simply upload the screenshot without having to register, get the url and embed it on the patreon's about page.

Patreon logic:
Creator post = allows uploading images to Patreon directly (camera icon left from textbox)
Overview page = you can only link to external images

Don't get me started on the 200 MB attachment limitation ... I could rant for hours about Patreon failing at fundamental things.

Forgive my question as I am new about patreon related stuff but how is the 200 MB attachment limit bad?

That limit is applied only to images and even a BMP would struggle to reach such a size.

If anything, it is a shame that I have to upload a video elsewhere for it to be attached on patreon, it would be definitively more handy if I could simply upload it there directly.

Not being a Patreon user, I don't know if this is possible or not.

But.
If the Patreon site allows you to upload images to creator posts, but the overview page doesn't allow it...

... could you perhaps create a news post (full public access) to say something like "Here's my new logo. What does everyone think?". Attach your image, then post it...

... then link the overview image to the external URL for the image you added to your news post?

That way, everything stays on the Patreon pages.

Not that it really matters, since you already have a solution with the imgbb site solution.
I just liked the perversity of trying to use Patreon's site to bypass Patreon's poor design.

  • Reliability: In many cases third-party hosters have TOS that does not allow pornographic or sexual content. Even if they don't have that in the terms they can still delete your content any time with no reason, read the MEGA TOS for example. Nobody likes broken/dead links obviously.
  • Security: Who guarantees that nobody manipulates files when you upload to a random hoster? A Patreon-link from the creator would be more trustworthy. The 'parasites' that leak content from adult games/animations/comics/whatever upload it to questionable hosters. Hosters that urge the users to buy premium accounts. As creator you can only preach 'Do not download from unofficial sources!'. But nobody listens, nobody understands that they are potentially supporting criminals. The 'parasites' promote these hosters on their websites and get money from them in return. They earn money with the stolen content from 100? 1000+? creators. In biology there is word for a life form that behaves like that: parasite!
  • Download speed: assuming that Patreon has solid servers.
  • Patreon links would possibly also helps to prevent leaking exclusive content from 'casual' bad guys: Patreon links cannot be copied like a MEGA link for example. A bad guy must at least download and upload the content to 'leak' it. Nothing for a lazy guy. Obviously this won't stop the 'parasites'.
  • Simplicity: Have everything in one place.

That limit is applied only to images ...
Not true. To verify I just tried to upload a zipped 300 MB+ file and instantly got a popup about the 200 MB attachment limit:

Hosting a creators software/game directly on Patreon remains a problem.

I had no idea you could upload the game directly on Patreon! :O That was a very helpful explanation, thanks!

It would be faster to upload it to a real host than splitting the file in what I suppose would be multiple patreon posts (it would be messy, too).

I do not really know why they put such a strict limit, they surely have the resources to allow a way larger size

They don't want to be a generalized hosting service, I guess. Storage, bandwidth, etc. all costs money, and wouldn't be tied directly to their revenue stream. So they probably chose a size that would handle things like art, but would exclude people posting (most) movies, big games, etc.
