I'm working on a visual novel with a crime storyline focused on serial murders. My question is about including some scenes with blood and bodies in the environment (nothing too graphic). Do Patreon's terms apply only to what's posted on their site, or does it also cover content within the visual novel? For example, the images below would be inside the VN, but not on Patreon. Thanks!

Edit:
Patreon response:
To protect users from shocking or disturbing imagery, Patreon does not permit violent or graphic works, including the glorification of real-world violence or suffering. This policy applies to works featuring real humans as well as hyperrealistic representations of a human, regardless of how the works were created.

If you're planning on posting animated, non-hyperrealistic content, we won't consider it in violation of our Community Guidelines.

I hope this clarifies your doubts! If you have any other questions please don’t hesitate to email me and I’ll be happy to help. For any additional information, please feel free to check our Community Guidelines.

it covers "works", which is the content you fund through patreon. but why do you think some not very graphic scenes with blood and corpses are against their terms?

well, accessing that link from eg. Germany ... I wonder if we get different ToS nowadays?

"To protect users from shocking or disturbing pictures, Patreon does not allow violent or graphic works, including the glorification of violence or agony in the real world. This rule applies to works showing real people, and also to hyperrealistic depictions of humans."
English by me

I think the important part is that with the "hyperrealistic" depiction of humans. They even explain it does not apply to half-robots etc. and how to discern "hyperrealistic" from illustrated / animated.
No idea what made them inject that "hyper" there ...

hyper just means very. as in indistinguishable or nearly indistinguishable from real people. they added this since the recent advance in ai generation, so basically it means ai generated "real people". so not your average daz model

Thanks everyone for the reply. I'm thinking about removing every image about the crime. Leave only the investigation part and outiside of the crime scenes. I asked them today about it, i'll wait for their reponses and post it here.

Because of their guides:

"Documented or told narrative, such as True Crime podcasts, documentaries, or academic or historical research." and " Human abuse: Works that exalt the imposition or consequences of physical, emotional, psychological, or sexual harm to a person or group, leading to suffering, pain, or death. Examples include, but are not limited to, non-medical depictions of bodily parts or fluids, charred bodies, dismemberment, images recorded during a violent or deadly attack, domestic or intimate partner violence, mass violence or other physical abuse, or torture."

you're quoting out of context. and the first quote is for PERMITTED works.

read it all. among the first it says is this:
"This policy applies to works featuring real humans as well as hyperrealistic representations of a human, regardless of how the works were created."
so not your game, unless you think your humans are so realistic they qualify as hyperrealistic

PERMITTED:
"Violence in an animated or simulated context (e.g. video games, comics, graphic novels in which the violence is not hyperrealistic)."
so your game which doesn't even show the violence is permitted

but that's my interpretation. if unsure, contact patreon like you did. we'll see what they say

You will probably be fine, they only seem to truelly care about if anything breaks their erotica guidelines. For instance, character commits genocide (Pictured)? Fine, go for it bro
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

Character being blackmailed to give a blowjob, or the character's boyfriend/girlfriend might get fired and have to look for a new job?

NOT ALLOWED! NOT ALLOWED!

How do I know this? Because I was contacted by them for above blowjob scene (It was more story to it than that, but you see my point), but not for the genocide scene.

Replace the language part in the URL by "en-GB" (so, " ") and you should have the English version.
Alternatively you can also change the language at the bottom left of the page.
