Paypal and the adult side of patreon

Hello my fellow porn enthusiasts.

I mentioned it on another thread not long ago but didn't want to derail chat and since the other posts regarding paypal didn't really answer my question
or were already quite aged I decided to just open a new thread.
From what i've read so far some devs use paypal and are mostly fine since payal doesnt get told directly
where the patreon money comes from but what about the supporters?
How much information does paypal have on the transaction and since it's rather 'ehhh' with adult content could they freeze the acc?

Would using a separate paypal acc from my day-to-day acc be a good idea?
As you see I'm pretty unsure about it all and would like to know of your experiences.

You shouldn't have any problems with using Paypal on Patreon because Patreon is "Paypal approved", ie Patreon's guidelines forbid content that Paypal won't allow. That's why certain content is not allowed on Patreon but is allowed on for instance SubscribeStar (which does not have Paypal as a payment option).

Hello Dirk! I hope I can help you!

Paypal has TOS against any NSFW/adult services/payment exchange. That much is very true.

However, if you're going to use the service anyway, I highly suggest you have two separate accounts. Register the one for business as a business account to protect your identity when sending invoices (if this is the purpose you're using it for), though paying for services will automatically provide personal details. Be wary if your identity is sensitive information to the person you're doing business with!

Be sure to have a generic separate SFW named email tied to the NSFW account.
hentai@fuckmyass.com or tentaclefuck@bigtitties.com will probably flag, but mrdirk@whatever.com would likely be fine.

You will need to verify your identity after a certain cash threshold so be sure to enter all legally correct information when registering. This should prevent locking and freezing of your finances on your account.

Sending invoices through Paypal:
Do not under any circumstance type anything in your invoices that could be NSFW, including your store logo. Keep all information as sparse and vague as possible but also keep to any tax filing limits in your country..
E.G. Instead of "ITEM: sexy NSFW lewd art of woman taking big dick", you'll want to label things as "ITEM: Art Commission".
This will also make things MUCH less awkward if you hire an accountant down the line.

Paying invoices/paying directly through Paypal:
Straight forward. It's typical and good practice to not include notes that say anything when paying someone for a service. You'll likely get blacklisted in the industry if you do so. If you see a provider has included NSFW descriptions on an invoice it's a good thing to let them know and to not pay it until it's corrected.

Using middlemen services (SUGGESTED):
Patreon, Ko-Fi, and Gumroad are typically straight forward middlemen to process any payment you're unsure of. As I write this, they are all on good terms with Paypal (this may change in the future).
For Gumroad, please be sure to not title your provided content or purchase provided content with anything pertaining to porn in the title for good measure.
This includes "18+, [R-18], ADULT, EROTIC, any lewd titles or words in the title, etc".
This is because when the payment is processed through Paypal, it will show the title of the purchase to Paypal themselves via their own invoice.

In conclusion, take everything I say with a grain of salt. I may be wrong and things may change, but I've been functioning well since 2015 and seen a lot of shit happen to a lot of people. Hopefully enough so to have learned some things along the way by proxy. Your safest bet would be solely processing through Patreon- though they will take a chunk of that money/the services may cost more doing it that way.

Have a good day! :coffee:
That's a lot of info. Thanks for the input!
