Unreal Engine - Personal Study [v0.11.1 hotfix 1] [ArcaneSpoon]

I really enjoyed this gem of a game. I see a few recent reviews talk about it being a bit slow-paced, and I think that's a fair comment - but I, for one, absolutely love the pacing. The environments are mysterious and a joy to explore, the music and sounds add an immersive atmosphere, and honestly while the puzzles can occasionally be a bit unclear, I really enjoy them and am looking forward to more.

Even the dialogue and character interactions are engaging and interesting. Sure, the English is a bit stilted sometimes - but not in a way that matters or detracts from the experience. Honestly the game is just shockingly well polished for where it feels like it is in its development cycle. Especially for a full-3D game!

And all that's not even to mention the excellent adult content. The main character is quite hot and has a personality, and the sex scenes are more varied and kinky than was expecting, even reading the tags. Some really top-notch content, with warnings and options to skip for people who aren't into the more niche stuff.

I encountered a few crashes and glitches while playing through (lots of input lag unless I turn of V-sync, for instance), but honestly I don't particularly care. The game is really enjoyable as it is, and issues can be worked out.

I look forward to future content, and I think everyone even slightly intrigued by the concept should give it a try. It's a lovely, immersive walking simulator-style game with enjoyable puzzles that would be fun to play even without the lovely adult content.

Graphics look really good (not just UE5, the models, animations, environment look good)

Puzzles are approachable for the general public, tho I would say I would prefer more puzzles of the thinking kind rather than the find interactables and put the square peg in the square hole. There were some good ones, hanoi tower for example, but they were pretty simple examples of them. Now for a porn game? probably a good idea to keep them simple

Story is simple, not what you would play the game for but serves the purpose of tying up the gameplay and environment nicely.

There is a bit of inconsistency where some books in some puzzles are interactable, but some in other puzzles aren't, which can make finding clues harder since you don't expect them to be relevant. Bit of a game language issue but there is a walkthrough if you get stuck.

Let's start with the good, which is the game's visuals are great and well polished, which is enough to carry the game to 3 stars and not a total skip.

Once you start playing, the game starts on a bad foot with poor controls, low quality of life features, very slow movement speeds, and a slow camera. I also kept having to swap between gamepad and keyboard which was extra frustrating.

For the actual gameplay, this game makes no sense as a porno NSFW game. The gameplay of solving puzzles is completely unrelated to the lewd story, erotic vibes, and the sex scenes. This means you are dry as a desert and not turned on after 20 minutes of 'gameplay' (which is walking around and solving puzzles) before hitting a sex scene.

You can get sexy Halloween costumes but it's not like you will be stuffed with a vibrator or put into a bondage harness while dripping cum while running around the map. Nope, 99% of the game is very sterile. There's no lewd art, innuendo, or implications in the atmosphere of anything sexy in the story. The MC doesn't seem to be remotely interested in sex and the only dialogue in the game is mega platonic.

So you have this massive disparity of vanilla gameplay then random short spurts of fantastic 3D sex animation. If this game didn't have these short porn sequences no one would be batting an eye at the puzzle game wrapper around it. Perhaps I was spoiled by Blue Prince, but the gameplay of Personal Study isn't remotely interesting. For example, you have basic Tower of Hanoi, rotating a laser beam into a few mirrors, and other puzzle 101 stuff. If you're gonna do Tower of Hanoi, why not make it stacking donuts around a dildo? If you have to analyze pictures on the wall, why not expose some breasts in the pictures?

Listen nsfw developers: I'd happily play the Blue Prince chest minigame and dart minigame 100+ times. Honestly, if the gameplay was just those games, and you put something lewd on the side of the screen, make a sexy story around it all, and keep the 3D sex scenes we'd have a 5/5 NSFW puzzle game. Hell, I enjoyed the sexy Minesweeper games people have made, and Minesweeper is barely a puzzle.

Otherwise, check out that succubus card battler game for an example that actually integrates NSFW into the gameplay/atmosphere while also having great 3D sex scenes. Or a bunch of the platformers where the protagonist can get clothing destroyed. Those all have an atmosphere of desperation in spicy hot (usually dangerous) situations.

You'll spend most of your time solving boring puzzles than watching the adult content you downloaded for . While the content at matter is pretty lack luster, with few variations, zero interactivity or effect on the gameplay.

The story is crap and uninteresting. The protagonist has a despicable personality, to the point I'd rather see her gored than fucked.
You'd be better off watching porn or downloading anything else.

loved The animation and the puzzles I finished in 3 and half hours it has great cut-scenes great story and the puzzles are not hard nor difficult I wish there were more and more character customization but overall 9/10 and waiting for the updates

One of the best games ive played yet , really appreciate the diversity in the model (futa or female) very rare to find in games such addition, it is one of the best transitions for me , full animation support too HUGE!! ..
And the POV option was insane ..
one of the few games that i come to play and end up buying for the quality to support the devs ..

Its pretty good if you like problem solving and puzzles. The attention to graphical detail is admirable. Definitely not your slash and hack kind of game. The plot is a bit superficial but I can see where the developer is going with this. It's not for people who want a quick fap.

im not big fan of the puzzle games but i think this game is ok level puzzle game nothing fascinating but it does the work but as a porn game it lacks a lot animations are mid at best and there is a few h scene compare to other 3d h games this game looks so weak so if you want to play a puzzle game with a few sex scene this game is for you i guess

Really good game! Graphics, environments and character models are beautiful. The sex scenes / animations are very smooth and sexy. Story is simple but does a good job explaining the main character's goal. Puzzles are great, not too hard or too easy.

Took me 2 hours and 30 minutes to get to the end of version 0.10.1 and having tried all sex scenes with both of the main character's forms, which makes it a nice and decently sized experience. Will surely play it again when there will be more content or when the game will be completed.

Not much of a fan of sex games that you need to solve complex puzzles to see sex scenes (not that I'm too dumb for them, I've played Talos Principle and certainly enjoy a good puzzle, I just want to see sex in sex games) - as for that aspect, I think the game has a potential, animations are done very well, character is very cute, there is basic physics in the scenes with tits bouncing, very fluid, cumshots are also present (and creampies) and are done ok but feel kinda basic, there is no cum build up and the cumshots are basically a separate scene, which is a shame cuz you get a feeling that the devs couldn't make a change in the animation cycle to allow for cumshots (and no cum physics, it's just a basic overlay that shows up over the character, it does stay if you switch to different scene, but doesn't stay on character after sex). For an elf like character you'd suspect the usual set of cliches - orcs with huge cocks, bulges, inflation - not here, maybe dev will add those one day, maybe not, 3 stars for quality of animations, minus 2 stars for lack of the stuff I outlined. If they make cumshots part of animations, add more animations, add even a small bulge or inflation in few select scenes - 5 star, instant classic.

Good graphics, likeable MC, puzzles were not bad, performance is buttery smooth. So why only 3 stars? I'm rating it for a NSFW game perspective. When it comes to NSFW, it's not great. The lewd density is too spread out, far and few between, and you're going to be playing for awhile before really seeing anything juicy.

And as for the sex itself, it's as basic as it gets, just a glorified animation viewer with camera controls. There is an exaggerated level of cum, which I'm into, but it's not physics/particle-powered or anything fancy like that, just a baked mesh, and it's all magically cleaned away once the scene is over...

Considering the amount of effort you go through to see each sex scene, the game could really benefit from making a v2 of their sex system. Make it more interactive, give the player better agency, implement a better cum system, allow the player to walk around naked or post-coitus messy.

not a big fan of the planet puzzle but was a decent game for the most part. super sexy elf babe is always a big plus especially one with white hair and dark skin. activate goon mode with her. good job looking forward to future updates

fantastic atmosphere and graphics. would love a little more of that voice actress from the intro. This has the potential to be one of the greatest with a lot more polish on the sexy stuff. One of the rare instances of coming for the porn and staying for the game.

Puzzles in this game actually makes you think enjoyable better than most triple a games imo

It's cool.
Graphics is eye candy. Very smooth, clear and detailed. Animation is great too. AAA among other projects.
Plenty number of puzzles and sex scenes. Many of puzzles are not so obvious like blocking gears with staff, and there is no any cues after 5 sec of standing. I think devs should dilute puzzles with any other gameplay element.
I really like this project and will watch its progress with great interest.

Massive potential. Clean animations, puzzles are the right balance of thought provoking but not overly difficult. Well polished, only bug i had was the E prompt got stuck on my screen at one point but other than that flawless. Protag is hot af

if you had focused on making good scenes, good character models and more engaging stories as much as you focused on making your puzzles long awful and difficult you would have had a wonderful game.

the story is great, the characters are good. these are the only two positive points about the game. the abilities are fun too .

the puzzles , scenes absolute garbage. the puzzles in particular looks like an attempt from you to make people delete the game. it's like a literal effort from you to make people not enjoy their time. everything started going good in the beginning, 30 minutes in however, everything takes a deep dive to shit. 30 minutes in after getting the 3 stones, you can see the point where the developer has decided to burn everything they built to the ground!.

the best example I can think of is like an ex lover who decides to absolutely trash the entire home before leaving to send a big F you to their partner when they come back.

but the most disappointing thing is the scenes. good god, the limited amount of scenes in this game is sad! after 3 years! .

Great promise and the main character is hot, can't wait to see more.

Controller support is a little wonky but there and the possibility of it being in VR is excellent as well.

I do wish the scenes from the regular poses to the climax was seamless but I'll take what I can get with such a nice looking game.

One of the best fucking games I’ve ever played. I don’t get how the hell it’s only 1 GB but has graphics, story, and puzzles this goddamn good. Massive props to the dev for their work. Can’t wait for more updates.

What I’d add:
- A quest menu.
- Maybe highlight interactive items. (Seriously, some key story shit ain’t always in your face, and I’m stuck clueless about what to do next.)

Not much content, but of very high quality.
The maps are beautifully built, interactions with enviroment feels smooth, animations are just a few, but nice.
A hint of a story is starting to come out, but there is work to be done on that.
Very promising in my opinion.
