Personally I play porn games for fun/ entertainment , means, I like a good story, great art, the fact that porn games aren't that predictable as porn movies and of course it should tickle my kinks.

I've read a lot of discussions where people are complaining that certain stuff in the game breaks the game for them, so it seems that they would rather stop playing an (otherwise) great game than making an ingame decision/ having an ingame experience which they can't relate to in RL.

Interested in your motives and opinions....and feel free to explain further

P.S. Don't get me wrong, of course it's nice to get drawn into a story and of course I would't play a game that only deals with fetishes I detest...

Really depends on the type of game, but pretty much always escapism in some form. The one thing I absolutely do NOT want is something mundane or overtly relatable to real life me, because if I wanted that I could just go and do it IRL for a much more direct experience. However few things will truly make me stop playing as long as there is something else worth seeking out, the main offenders being terrible UI/mechanics and writing aimed at a particular mindset I oppose (incel levels of female "inferiority" or abuse, emotion-focused netorare, racist interracial to name a few). And poor overall quality e.g. grammar, translation and visual clarity of the content.

Immersion is an issue for me when the English in the game is lacking (mainly typos and such), or when characters don't act like you'd reasonably expect them to, for the sake of pushing a porn-plot forward. There is some leeway for this, especially in fantasy/sci-fi, but at some point suspension of disbelief can no longer carry it. E.g. the tired old "woman sees huge dick, forgets everything else and becomes uncontrollably horny" trope.

Word immersion needs to be defined, to me immersion is getting deep into the story losing the sense of self, this happens when I'm consuming great stories or playing great games. You cease to exist and all characters come into life.

But some people here call self-inserting "immersion" which in fact is the opposite to me, that's what people do when they watch mindless porn, instead of getting into the mind of the character they just want the main character to be more like them until that character disappears... Usually those people are the ones that complain a game breaks "immersion" just because the character isn't behaving like them which is just silly and shows lack of empathy, this has little to do with immersion.

Primarily play a game to while away time
Avoid fetishes I inherently dislike
Within that like anything that distracts, amuses or surprises me

Would simply look at pornography if I just wanted arousal
Spend more time playing non-porn games than porn games

To be honest, if you're talking story wise, I will pretty much always drop a game if it's rubbish.
Sure some games aren't about stories, but if a game actively has a story and it's shit, well then... Nope.

I wouldn't say I play for immersion, not going to be immersed in something like a porn game lol, but idk I like it to be somewhat realistic i.e girls don't magically fall over themselves just to get a taste of Mc's smeggy.

Definately for fun.

For me, any porn is fantasy. Its to experience something, on some level, that I haven't or cannot do in real life. I'm not looking for romance or love, and while a well written plot is always welcome, it doesn't need to have twists and turns. Just be fun, and sexy. I'm certainly never looking for something dark, and I don't insert myself into the character that I'm playing.

tl;dr Ideally it would be both. There's something a little "extra" enjoyable about a game that is "fun" that you can get immersed in and identify with the protagonist, even if they're "not you" and can go on that basis.... its why things that are "turn-offs" are typically a hard pass for many imo.

Immersion. I get my fun from that. Fun will come. Sadly some of the games I like best are incomplete right now that's Peasants Quest, Queen Opala Origin, Renryuu.

Trouble is you run into a crap ton of backtracking and they don't always mention new content in great detail. And the natural fact by the time it's got a respectable amount of new content you've largely lost that immersion/sense of your world state. I basically keep a word file on those incomplete games. Like locked door here, rock block there,no bone so and so yet. Because I will lose immersion and will forget.

It's so much better to run into a complete game. Only one of those I got upcoming is Evenicle 2 next month, really looking forward to that.

starts off fun then you get immersed but overall depends as if the characters are fleshed out well enough you genuinely forget its an adult game with lots of sex (lookin at you badik)
