Which feels better for a porn game, where the theme is family incest? Immersion in a porn game is important, and capturing the feeling of home can make an incest porn game better IMO.

Let's speculate as to why people may prefer one or the other? Growing up, the end user may have either lived in a suburb or inner city neighborhood, so based on that experience, it could explain why they choose one over the other.

I grew up in a suburb, and as a result, I find it harder to identify with a family living in an inner city neighborhood. Does anyone else feel the same?

Skimming through the top f95 porn games, it seems there's a healthy mix of both environments, although a suburb seems to be slightly more popular (I'm strongly open to correction).

One more thing, who says it's not possible to design a hybrid mix of suburb and inner city neighborhoods? Anything is possible in 3D.

The following quote by RedPillBlues was one of my concerns, I didn't even bring it up, but he mentioned it, so the concern has merit imo; in other words the fact he brought it up shows it's relevant. I'm also worried about that feeling of constriction, and that maybe it'll hamper eroticism in some way, not sure. At least there's a thread on it now, and in the next 5 years maybe more devs will chime in.
Suburb for me, theres just a lot more you can do with it IMO. Innercitys are a lot more constricted

Wherever is quieter.
I hate living in places where from morning to morning you hear the annoying sound of cars zooming past your house.
As such, the living space must not be anywhere near any main roads.

Oh wait, right, this is about a game. Got a bit annoyed from remembering my past living experiences.
Well basically it doesn't matter.:coffee:

I feel there's a chance, and maybe it's just a small one, that the neighbourhood of the MC has zero impact on the popularity of these games.

There are millions of people who live in suburbs or suburb-like conditions similar to the example you present
There are millions of people who live in an urban area similar to the example you present
You are not narrowing your consumer demographic by much no matter either you choose. If you ever actually develop a game and place it on here, you are going to see several thousand - at best - play the game... unless you are very very lucky. Just choose what works best for you, in the end.

I mean, if you are seriously thinking that you want to create a location which makes immersion more possible - you are missing the the billions of people who live in non USA locations and who are the growing demographic for video games, including the adult gaming market.

I'd prefer the Inner City style. More people, more activities, easier to blend in. Suburban style is good for a more laid-back approach, more personable.
But we can't forget about the more secluded, rural places where such a thing might be more open with such a limited amount of people. Remote villages, farmland, even extreme places like bunkers, satellite stations, etc.

Where the home is doesn't matter as long there's effort put into the game and game's world.

But the suburbs are terrible # Notjustbikes

Would be nice with a change of scenery with something you don't see often, for example:

- Trailer-park
- Run down home (could be in any area)
- Street/homeless
- A bunker
- A ship

it could be under the sea for all i care, just get out of the box.
i am just so tired of playing in million $ mansions and fairy tales castle.
Then there is the suburbs witch is fine, but it ain't that imaginative and it is used very often, however it is more relatebale for the majority.
Sci-fi could hit the nail on all of this but i am personally not a big fan of that genre.

As usual I fail to see the link between the first part of the question (incest story) and the second (place where you live).

And while I can see some kind of relevant in the fact that one place or another generally imply a different social status, there isn't a so big difference for the two options gave.

My vote was for 'other' as I have no strong opinion on the suburbs vs inner city question. I do however know I'd prefer outskirts over both. I don't want to be in a cookie cutter neighbourhood or surrounded by tall buildings and have no nightsky due to light polution. I'd much prefer something like:

I suppose this would be considered rural? But I'm not so much talking about no mans land or giant swathes of land with very few residents having massive properties, but more of a mix of rural and suburbs. Bit more

That said, for realism, assuming you are basing it on a US city, I see pros and cons all around so I will try to voice those:
For Suburb:
+ Realistic that the MC if they are a YA won't go out much due to having to drive everywhere.
- I'm aware looking in from outside, but I get a sense there's more of a keeping up with the Joneses kind of vibe there, if reputation matters maybe incest less likely?
For a city setting:
+ Prices are high for square footage, so more cramped living quarters where you can see a lot more a short glance away makes for a realistic unintended seduction (Your sister isn't trying to seduce you, you just happen to have more opportunities to catch glimpses due to limited space to start your engine)
- It tends to be quite busy and people usually move to the city center for a purpose, be it schooling or work or w/e and I can totally believe people are living under the same roof but not really 'together'.
Mixed use:
+ How I grew up so I relate to it (I admit this is biased so you can't really count this one)
+ Since it's very walkable you can make it both believeable the MC has a car, or doesn't, or takes public transit, which imo opens most doors. There are still alleys, roads, parking lots, private places, shops, both rows of houses and apartment complexes, lowrises and industry parks. So I think it would enable you to spread your wings far more.
- Depending on the playerbase, this may not be a relevant experience for many which takes away from immersion. On top of that, it may be hard to keep a clear mental picture of what it looks like and end up with a bit of a muddled story. For example, going to the store can take 20 minutes or 2 hours, which adds more variables. And if the MC would consider those variables, now so do you have to.

I don't know if I explained that as poorly as I feel I did. It's clear in my head but not easy to visualize. Point is, I think you can make any of the settings work with writing but if you want to focus more on the story it makes sense to write what you know.

TL;DR: For me Rural-ish > Mixed use neighbourhood > Suburbs > City Center

PS: The spoilers aren't really spoilers, but it's more to keep the post less scrolly.
