You must give them the correct item to unlock the scenes... did you use the chest to craft the special items?

I've been giving them the item they like a lot of times already. he won't interact with the chest other than saying he should investigate this

Looks interesting, however at the same time with the Nintendo monster lurking about I worry that this game might get shut down just like the Metroid one.
