PRIMAL×HEARTS is a "by the book" VN, that is backed up by a proper budget. There's nothing bad, amazing or different here, it's traditional all the way, but that's exactly what they were going for, a safe bet rom-com, with cute girls, and Marmalade sweetness. You get exactly what you expect, and for many that's the entire point.
Positive:
- It's the standard formula with no deviations - VN's usually have more than "1 typing", but this is a straight-up "moege", that exists solely to entertain you.
- High production values - Art style is good (visually appealing title), voice acting is solid, robust OST, lots of options/accessibility, and the writing doesn't "rock the boat". The technical side of things is important too, and this VN delivers on those parameters.
- Decent comedy and slice of life - Same principle really, everything works, and PRIMAL×HEARTS is good for a laugh, having wholesome moments, or watching a group of friends.
- More H-scenes than usual - And they look good for 2014. If you like "vanilla and pure love", this should work very well.
Negative:
- They never heard of taking risks. I can't think of a single element, that can separate this VN, from all the others following the same formula. You got the budget, try something different once in a while (They didn't change their ways since this one, btw).
Score: PRIMAL×HEARTS is a 7/10 and a good VN, mostly because of production values. This is a solid title for a beginner, since it allows you to see what a long traditional VN has to offer. Let's assume you are specifically looking for more of the same (cute girls, routes, comedy, slice of life, high school setting) PRIMAL×HEARTS fits the bill and does a competent job.
