The project has quite a bit of potential to become one spooky game, which I'd love.
From what's been released so far, the style is there for those who dig the Dead Space / Martian Gothic style, not much in terms of gameplay yet and some graphical settings (like the possibility to turn down the film grain) are lacking, but It's a solid demo.
Keep on track Dev and don't give up! There are far too few adult horror games out there for my liking.
Edit post update:
I had to come back to this review because after some pretty extensive data loss suffered by the dev he released an updated demo with some more bits of gameplay in it and the direction of the project and it's potential are, on my opinion, increased, as my desire to have more.
The Good:
- The core gameplay, exploration and pacing:
Those reminds me of Resident Evil 2 Remake, meaning that it's "slow moving" and atmosferical, as a result of this you may find yourself feeling vulnerable.
-The gunplay:
you are not 100% accurate, you are not fast and reloading takes time, which is fitting for a character that looks more like a medic or a scientist with limited combat training that the usual commando.
The only gun in the game right now feels and sounds good to use.
-The enemy:
not many details about it right now, but the slow walking, faceless and silent type makes for quite the impression, expecially if you are not expecting them. Right now they are slower than you, I would at least make them as fast as your walking animation, but this works too, expecially when you are not sure where to go.
-The game over:
as of now, the demo has a game over stage, after you are defeated 2 times you get dragged in a different room that you need to escape, reaching the end of this room triggers a "thanks for playing". I really hope that this is expanded further as I really like adult games that has no serious gameover when you get defeated, so that you are not punished when you get "accidentally" caught.
The Neutral:
-The character model:
not aiming for a fotorealistic look, has its style, like it or not, up to you.
-The environment:
under construction, I get that. You may not like mazes, but have ever seen how the insides of a Star Destroyer, the Enterprise or the Nostromo (Alien) are? Spaceships are repetitive, this spaceship is repetitive, but has labels on the hallways so it's good.
-The adult animations:
nothing groundbreaking, nothing bad. As of now more than decent with good loops.
-The movement animations:
looks and feels physics driven, you can get stuck sometimes, can be improved, but let's be honest, I've seen far worse.
-Sound design:
nothing special here, pretty basic as of now, we'll see
The Bad:
-...
I can't find a single bad design choice with the game that cannot be justified by the pre-pre-alpha state, it's right up my alley and I hope it will be worked on to completion.
I also hope that there were more options besides Patreon to contribute...
