So, according to recent news, games on Steam won't allow NSFW games to be released in Early Access, nor will they be allowed to be updated with NSFW content after release. This essentially means the entire game will have to either be released with NSFW content included at launch, and not after.

ea thing isn't new:
no new nsfw content after release is also misreported by some because it's steam wanting new nsfw stuff to go through dlcs so the additions are guaranteed to be reviewed too (and it's not new either):

it's in the news now because +1 dev hit by it happened to be noticed by the news sites.

(still, it getting more coverage is good, and whether it's recent or not doesn't take away from it sucking for the parties affected by it)

Because Steam won't let them get away like Patreon does. Games need to be completed. Or make a breakthrough where they can get split as Season 1-2 etc.

I'll support Steam's decision to push devs, but censoring is still dumb.

It's... it's because Steam doesn't check the contents of updates, so they don't know whether an update contains no-no stuff. Has nothing to do pushing anyone.

To be honest, I think this is kinda stupid.

Yeah, I get it, otherwise they can't check the content of updates, but this kind of regulations aren't in place for any other game genre. Those roll in new updates with new content all the time.

And while this might result in better update packages (more content per update to make it worthwile), it also means that updates will take longer and everything will become significantly more expensive for legal users. Because what they previously received for free via a normal update, they now have to purchase separately.
Unless, of course, the developers make the "Chapter/Season"-DLCs free...
But... well... why should they, it's more money after all... :HideThePain:

All about control. This will NOT be limited to adult games. It's already begun to bleed into M rated games with "sexual themes," just being mentioned. If your game holds any traditional values that don't agree with modern extreme left ideology, it's going to get nuked.

Steam can fight this, but they will lose. Obey and consume new product, slave.
