You should look into their first abandoned game...Malice and the Machine, you can find it here on F95. Showed promise too way back when, now it'll never get finished.

As for the $20k a month, sounds like they lost some money moving from Patreon to SubStar...and the only reason we finally got the Charger animation was to drum up some more interest and get folks to sign up with SubStar.

Yeah, many have (and I have in the past) pointed out how Eromancer will do the bare minimum required to keep this cash cow farting dollars for him...sad really, if he put for the effort and tried to complete his game. Well, he'd probably have a 5-star game that he could sell on Steam and it might even surpass Karryn's Prison. But nope...so here we are.

Ah well, see ya in a few more pages probably.
This is the exact same for Helius and his Fallen Doll / Lovecraft game/project series. It is sad and infuriating at the same time.

Sometimes I wonder if these (and many more) are modern equivalents or a new type of money laundering. Bot patreon/subscribe accounts that use fake information and retail pre paid credit cards to go from cash/shade to "legitimate business". Give it the appearance of actual "game development" as a front and honestly who would notice or be the wiser?

If you simply look at what one regular average developer/artist can accomplish in a week while working 40-50 hours a week and compare that to the actual output of some of these games developer then it really makes you wonder what they are actually doing. There are people on youtube that make an entire high res poly character from drawing to full render in one 4 hour livestream. And yet, in the case of Fallen Doll, the supporters have to wait 3 to 4 months for one character to drop, the scamming is insane.

In regards to Onyx, the concept and base is great, I hope it becomes something awesome but from experience many know better.

Damn, that's a bad record then. at that rate this will never be finished... the style looks great, you know, for a porn game and the animations are smooth. Gameplay is reduntant and clunky but most beat em' ups are so i guess it's okay. I guess that if i join the monthly subscribestar page i will get august version but i assuming that release isn't different than the July one correct? (maybe a couple extra things and that's it)
There´s nothing new of value:

TL;DR changelog news:

- 2 slightly modified H-scenes (Onyx+Bunnies / Onyx+Charger)
- The FKDoll+Runt scene is now in the background of one map (it was gallery only)
- Bugfixes you wouldn´t notice in the 1st place

If you´re going to pay, better wait another month...

Yeah, pretty frustrating that not only do some people who clearly have talent at something like this just take the easy and lazy method of making it a personal ATM for barely any effort, but also that people continue to buy into the scam fueled by their hopes and dreams so the dev never feels the need to actually put in work and deliver on the product. It would be great if both groups' mindsets would change. I've always felt that quality products will rise to the surface naturally, so it vexes me to no end that rather than put in effort and complete this game, potentially becoming one of the best (like Karryn's Prison, as you mentioned), instead Eromancer just keeps coasting on the dono money even though there'd probably be a far bigger and longer-lasting payoff for actually finishing the damn game.

Like, I'm no business major or anything close to it, but I have always maintained that people will pay for quality, especially when that quality is clear to see. So many games with amazing potential that present that kind of quality, and yet a disturbing number of them fall into the same fate as this game and MatM. There are plenty of h-game devs that are slow to put out updates, sure. But seeing the latest patch notes just makes me laugh; it's pathetic.

And maybe it's a difference of situation or mindset, but if I had the skills to make games like this, or Karryn's Prison, or any number of games I could list, personally I would be working on it every chance I could, because I know that's what keeps people invested, brings in more potential backers, and overall gets the game working well and eventually completed. Hell, maybe someday I'll have to put in the effort to learn how to make games of my own, and either work on improving my own art or just work with an artist who could help it come to fruition. I could just about guarantee that with my mindset, even if I never reach the quality that this game could have, I'd not only have a better following than Eromancer, but I'd also get the game finished instead of just jerk everyone around with updates shorter than a Twitter post.

Might be a lot of big talk coming from someone who knows virtually nothing about game development, but fuck, man, it's just so frustrating to see stuff like this become more and more common. You'd think eventually someone with skills like Eromancer's would come around and have the bright idea to just do the normal thing and make their fucking game without milking the backers for years, and absolutely take off in terms of success. But as far as I know, most of the good devs either keep their heads down or are content to work on smaller projects. Which, kudos to them, but I wish more people would follow their practices instead of those of Eromancer.

If people paid for quality, Dollar General and knock-off walmart brands wouldn't sell. Also nobody is making you continue to pay this person money. You can see how much (or little) they've produced and you could simply stop paying. In fact it might even light a fire under their ass to produce more.

Also as somebody whose friends with people in indie gamedev circles I can tell you right now that it takes a long time to make a game, and the smaller the team the longer it takes. I mean to make a game you pretty much have to be an artist, a programmer, a sound designer, have some kind of business acumen, be around to catch bug reports from the community, and fix said bugs. Just to name a very simplistic look into game development.

To be honest, I wouldn't be a gamedev no matter what, it doesn't matter if it's for a AAA producing company right down to a small single person indie dev. I've seen first hand how much work gets put into it, sometimes while holding down another job only to see people go.. "Do better" "Be faster" "Give us what we want" and "Give it to us when we want it." For Christ's sake you know burnout is a thing, you know if effects creativity and work output drastically?

Now I'm by no means saying that this dev isn't pushing a con to rake in money, but let's also not talk about it like they somehow belong to a group where money isn't what keeps them from homelessness and somehow the hustle isn't real for them. Plus I hate to bring up the obvious, but this is a website which offers many of these games for free (sure some people pay for it and then share it, but it's still given freely to a considerable amount of people)

I know this is going to sound like I'm personally attacking a lot of people on here and it really isn't, but I just don't see anybody at all bringing up any points that might say point out the difficulty of a job few people can honestly do. I know this won't matter and I'll probably get some fun responses or outright ignored but oh well..

thats not a good comparison, those stores in theory are frequented because they offer lower cost products for people who want to pay less and dont bother suffering in quality a bit
from what im seeing the patreon for this game has very high prices for updates that also underperform, its a pay more for less situation.
However in the end youre also right about gamedev taking an unbelievable amount of effort, personally i'll just sleep on this game for now and come back later, maybe the game will be in a better spot after a few months
