the engine only matters if you like or dislike some of its core features and want or don't want more of the same (like virtually all renpy games letting you roll back to reread previous text and change choices you made if you don't like them without the hassle of saving and loading the game, or rpgmaker games being either snes-era jrpg genre or that with the rpg elements removed, or unity/unreal games letting you cook breakfast on your ancient laptop's surface), or if you have trouble running games made with it (not compatible with your hardware, or not supporting your operating system)
