to you the legal answer is this because it is copyright material not in less you ask them not us cause we will tell you to go ahead

Probably. I'm no expert, so this is just a guess: you need to be careful when you are doing it for commercial purposes. If there were no money involved, then I'd say go for it. Because that is just artistic expression or something like that. But, what you are doing is taking somebody's work, slightly alter it, and then profit from it.
