Hey guys, so I'm sure many of you know that when playing most Ren'Py games, you can skip and / or fast-forward through the game by either holding CTRL on the keyboard or just toggling it on and off with TAB. However, I noticed that you can usually only do this if you have already seen or completed the content that you are trying to fast-forward through, or only do this in certain scenes like animations, maybe some cutscenes, etc.

Now, I'm sure I'm not the only one to say that certain games have some very nice but arduously long content, and specially when you are dead-set on only pursuing a specific character's route, the rest don't seem all to interesting to sit through and pay attention to.

So my question is, do any of you know how you can skip through / fast-forward in Ren'Py without having to go through that particular content beforehand?

Check the game's preferences menu and select "unseen text". And also "after choices" and "transitions" so that you can skip those too. You'll still stop at choices, but by selecting "after choices" you won't need to press TAB again after picking your desired option.

I'm not grumpy, I'm just coded that way.

Or use the auto-forward feature, that present the advantage to let you define the speed at which it will advance. Therefore you can still have an idea of the context (useful when a choice appear), and you'll not miss the starts of a scene because the skip feature is "way too fast".

I might be hijacking the thread by asking this question, but is there a way to move Renpy ctrl skipping to mouse macros, and make it permanent over all Renpy games?

Mouse macros, no, because Ren'Py is limited when it come to input recognition. It can only handle left, middle and right buttons, as well as the wheel move. And all are already used by the default configuration.

I use the program "XMouseButtonControl" to hang some key on the mouse button.
