Questions about monetizing games with "sensible" themes (incest, bestiality, rape, etc)...

Greetings...

I have a couple of questions about monetization for games, specially when games include themes, subjects or tags like (but not limited to) incest, bestiality, rape, etc.

As I understand, the biggest tools or sites to monetize content creation, like Patreon or Subscribestar, prohibits or discourage use of such themes. I don't know about Itch.io, or other sites.

The most common method to work around this, I see it to leave the "sensitive" themes as something optional by using relations as step-mother/sister or landlady/roommate. Other subjects like bestiality or rape might be left out completely.

I one try to make a gave that heavily relies on one or more of these "sensitive" subject, without compromising changing names or having to op-out certain scenes, then what could be the options to keep monetizing despite that. Any other more international options?...

Also... this is about monetizing, but it might also be applied to hosting, if one want to store online resources, or make an online hosted HTML game.

From my observations:

Subscriibestar doesn't have the restriction patreon has, there other issues for subscribestar - lesser audience, higher commission(?), inadequate costumer service etc. Itch does provide more leniency than patreon but I not sure how lenient they are.

Work around methods include, as you said, having landlady/roommate dynamic. You can also provide patch files, there are many games that do so, provide the "sensitive" material separately from the patreon links. Users put the patch material to the game folder and get to experience the intended game.

For hosting the game online, there are many services that will help you. I have only ever played html games online but am sure there are website that can host them online. You can also make your own website. Quick google says the domain will cost you 10$ - 20$ a year and don't know how much for building one.

A lot of hosting companies do not approve of such themes mind you. I think hostgator was more ok, thought i had a bad experience with them which left my website offline for about 10 days with them not knowing about it until I told them.

I would think providing patches over some other medium would work, as unofficial "cracks"

Patreon took down my html game with real porn, I think because it had sex. But now I see similar games up.

Sorry to hear. As long as it's graphical and not REAL, you should be fine on Patreon. It's in their TOS.
