Ready to take the plunge and try making a game

Admittedly, I've been a lurker here and haven't interacted much but I've grown to be a huge fan of the Adult gaming genre.

I've decided to try and give creating a game a chance and at least contribute something back to the community here. Having no formal background in gaming, however, poses a bit of an obvious challenge. Therefore, I decided to start "small" with a card based MTG type game. I'm sure the "recycled" idea might not sit well with some here, but my intention is not to get rich off of this. My intentions are purely to make a fun outlet people can enjoy, get to meet some new people, and learn a little more about making games.

I'm curious what the community's thoughts are on the concept. If there would even be any interest in this type of game.

I'd appreciate any thoughts or feedback you all can provide.

Attached are a few concept cards I've created so far to give you an idea of the look. Hopefully, I'll have more soon.

Will the art be made with AI?

Also, do you have any background in coding? Sounds like it would be a nice challenge to make this.

Erotic card games are not my thing, but it's nice to see new ideas, good luck!

Short answer yes, as it "one less thing to worry about", but if there is interest in this venture I'm not opposed to partnering with an artist or player submitted ideas.

I have some basic level of coding but haven't utilized it in my career, so my skills have atrophied significantly. Hoping it comes back to me quickly.

I appreciate the questions and thanks.

I normally go for VNs over adult games with gameplay, but card games are the exception - I love them.

I hope this goes well for you, and I'll probably try it out when you release. Good luck!

Considering all you have are some random cards with AI art slapped on them, I'm not sure what sort of feedback you expect...

I really do not get why people always ask this question, especially if you said you aren't interested in money :WaitWhat:

It is really a stupid question because there's an audience for everything, and if someone said "No, I want you to make [insert what you hate]" you wouldn't get very far with it. So, at the end, it is always about what you want to make, which in turn makes that question completely Meaning Less

That being said, there's not much else to offer feedback... Nice cards I guess?

Its just concept art. The AI art is just a placeholder to show what I have in mind until I'm either able to find an artist(s) interested in contributing or am able to commission some. The final intent is by no means to just have generic AI artwork.

My point is that "I'm planning to do a card battle game" means nothing if you have no demo or even art to showcase, how can someone give feedback if there is nothing you did here?

Release an actual demo if you want people's feedback, card battle eroge can be fun or not fun, will depend entirely on how you implemented it.

The question was manly about the type of game. Considering 99% of the games here are chose your own adventure story/VN based games, this doesn't fit what's typically well received here. I was curious if anyone had some input on why most don't stray from that path.

Personally, I think it would be nice to add some variety, but I'm sure there are others before me who have attempted the same. Hence, I wanted some community perspective on why that is and if a new genera would be a welcomed idea.

Just an author would want someone to read their book, I'd like people to want to play what I create. If there is no interest in the subject matter, then pivoting to a different idea that's more well received may be a better use of my time.

The main reason for that is because VNs are the easiest thing to implement with renpy, and similarly JRPGs are the easiest to implement with RPGM.

To add more complex mechanics you need more programming skills therefore many creators can't create or manage more complex games, so they stick with what is easier.

But still, there are more than the 1% you imply of non-vns.

Rather than getting bogged down in the details, let me just be straightforward: yes, with a concept this broad it is totally possible that people would like it. Relatively few porn games nowadays have actual gameplay, and a well-made card battler could certainly scratch an itch.

Can you, OP, pull it off? No fucking clue. Without any tags, backstory, or even a clear commitment on art direction, I have absolutely no idea how well this would go. My advice: go into it as a fun hobby, do some worldbuilding, think about mechanics you could reasonably implement, and see where things go.
