There's something that creates that bug it might have to do with the costumes or doing certain quests in a certain order but it should allow you to keep playing right? I got the same bug but it let me keep playing. Although I did translate the Japanese version using mtool so maybe that helped

Nah I couldn't keep playing it just kept bringing up the "retry" button for loading in the image over and over couldn't progress.

Well i guess the best we can hope for is for someone to figure out how to copy the dev's art style with ai and create a game that way
