Renpy animations not working

I just bought a new PC and it is not showing the animations in renpy games. I just get a black screen and the text. The PC is a Dell running an i5, 8Gb RAM, and a gtx1650. My old PC runs the games with no problems (depite being incredibly slow to start up and somewhat unstable.).
I am not the most techy guy so any help would be really appreciated. I have tried shift+g and changing the render but no difference.

There's a chance there are some codecs missing. Try this codec pack , I usually go for the mega pack.

No difference I'm afraid. So frustrating. Thanks for the suggestion.
Just in case you were interested, I eventually found a solution. I was searching the threads again and found the same problem (which I must have missed in the first 3 searches) where the guy had plugged in his headphones and it started working. Plugged in my speakers (which i had been using for something else) and now the animations work! FML. Feel happy and an idiot at the same time. Thanks again for taking time to reply, have a great day.

Hmm...

Animations are handled like sound (I know, it's weird), and when you decide to mute all sounds, or when all sound are mute by themselves (I guess you don't have speakers with you computer) then the animations aren't played.

Idiot here. Had the same issue and couldn't figure it out. Saw this, plugged in headphones, loaded game, viewed animation and proceeded to bash my f*cking head into the keyboard.

Side note, if you don't want to use headphones or speakers you can bind audio output to your HDMI port to your monitor and it will also work.

As far as I can tell, 384khz audio quality caused the "looping" for me. Changing it to 192khz fixed the animations looping for me.

Hold "Shift-G" I turned off power saving mode after dealing with this issue for the last couple of months thinking it was my amd 6900 GPU. I tried every other work-a-round people have said. Just did this 5 minutes ago and it's working like a charm now. Hope this helps a few out.

I am having this same issue, but toggling the Power Saving Mode did not fix it for me. :(

Had the issue with animations not loading as well. Played the whole fucking game thinking it had no animations fml... For me the issue actually was the headphones. As I am on a laptop, it obviously has built in speakers, but for some reason connecting my headset to it (hyperx cloud 2 wireless if anyone has the same model) just removed all animations. Simply removing my headset usb fixed the issue. In case someone else comes across this problem, this is something you could try.

This is a Ren'Py bug...
When you plug in your headset, it disable the built in speakers. The issue is that Ren'Py clearly do a poor job at detecting the speakers, and fail to detect your headset (probably because it's on USB). This make it believe that there's no speakers or whatever sound restitution system, then automatically mute the sound what, as said previously in the thread, by ricochet, also disable the animations.

So i had a similar problem where i had a black screen with text on games that i knew had working animations the previous time that i played it, i tried the suggestions on this thread but nothing worked.
I got it finally working by reinstalling DirectX

Braaaains...

I can't get any renpy games to display animations, just a black screen or checkerboard. The current subject of my investigation is using webm which the exact file plays fine outside renpy. I have a sound device and the scenes play the audio just fine. I also see the text just fine. I updated graphics driver twice (lenovo and intel) and directx but it didn't work. Mega codec pack and still no. I noticed that when I play the webm in media player classic, it uses directx so I forced ANGLE2 in renpy and restarted but it didn't work with or without power saving. The webm even plays when run directly with ffmpeg which renpy uses under the hood.

If anyone could help me find the next step, I would appreciate it very much. Verbose logging or debugging of some sort, perhaps?

I'm really at the end of my rope. This is a handy little laptop with a touch screen, perfect for VNs and it'd be a shame if I couldn't get it working. 7th Gen i5 and Intel HD Graphics 620. All the pieces are here; it must be something silly.

I don't know about Ren'Py but with some other, older, games it wasn't about "updating" DirectX, it was about specifically installing OLD, "legacy" DirectX runtimes that do not get installed when installing modern DirectX.
(Best bet might be DirectX 9)

sidenote - I really liked how of all manufacturers out there, my ACER laptop (travelmate) came with all the legacy directX and C++redistributables and whatnots preinstalled. :tmb:
