Ren'py games suddenly no longer playing webm animations.

I don't know what suddenly changed but I've noticed recently that a lot of game's animations are no longer playing,. After like the 5th game with this issue I checked and it seems like the only ones that are no longer playing are the ones with webm format videos for the animations.

I am able to open them and they play fine in vlc but in ren'py I get either a black screen with the dialogue as I progress through the scene or it stays on the last static image before the animation was supposed to play.

If anyone has any suggestions as to what could be causing this or even better, how to fix it, I would seriously appreciate it because I'm completely stumped by this problem.,
