Ren'Py - Rewind [v0.3.4.3] [Sprinting Cucumber]

While I'm not a huge fan of the character design, the actual art is pretty solid. Most animations and stills are recycled outside of events, so it could use a bit more diversity, but there's so much that has been put into this, that you'll find yourself just playing it for the game.

That said, even the events are largely just stills or black screens, and what there are of them, feel lifeless. The NSFW scenes are lackluster, and there's a massive grind to get to anything you might want to see.

That said, I've somehow spent several hours getting all of my titles maxed and exploring every inch of potential secrets and unlocking every scene.

If you're not afraid of a grind, and have just as much interest in a regular game as you do an H game, it's not as bad as these horny fucks would have you believe.

Really wanted to try this one out but i just couldent do it...

Even though i liked some parts of the story, i just couldent get past the grinds and the lack of questlog or something, sure it has a hint thing but to me that just made 0 sense, i beat the red head girl in a fight and saw her in a tree grinding, next hit was beat her again which i did and then nothing? i clicked every icon couldent find her anywhere and next day nothng happened either.
So i thought "ok fair enough ill just skip that one" but im almost sure that you have to unlock the damn things in order since next one said i had to buy a tent which i did and again nothing happens over the next 50 battles/tent scene....

Tried to rewind multiple times and nothing changed, so even though i was level 20+ and on rewind i gained around +275% stat gain i still got to see....nothing...thats just not good enough.

So yeah the sandbox is an insane grind of doing the same shit over and over for hours, then you also need to grain forever to get 100 hearth per level with a girl....i got up to lvl 2 and i had to give up, this was after quite a number of hours....and i really dont want to waste this much time on grinds and fast forward the same dialogs 5 million times....so yeah i would stay waaaay clear of this one unless grinding for some reason is your game style, but it is not mine.

LIs looks nice enough but has 0 value when i couldent get anywhere.

Its also a silent game and for this type it seriously needs some very good sound effects and music which would help a little when grinding for hours.

Animations i have no clue about the very few things i saw was pointless.

Grindy as the other reviews have mentioned but somehow I don't mind it like other games. I do think that the loops are pretty good and have enough variables to not feel so dull. The game also reward for the efforts of each loop also and I highly value that. The only frustration I got from this system is that I had to put my dick in boiling water and die for Fire Resistant Title.

The sex scenes and are not so bad but not good either: 3/5. The models, while I do think a lot of people might not find them aesthetic, they are quite cute grew on me as I play except Marla, I don't think she's attractive as other models.

What shine the most is the goofiness of the characters and situations they are in. Very fun. My favorite god is Kermit as he fucks his office and I somehow feel happy for him whenever he got a new furniture. 5/5

I do recognize that 5/5 overall rating might not be justified but I want dev to keep working on this for a long time as I see a lot of potential. Truly came for the fap, stayed for the story and gameplay. I'm not a supporter of his Patreon yet as I'm a broke college student atm but definitely would love be one when I'm stable.

Models and story are ok, but yet again a sandbox game with an awful grind core mechanics. The combat and mechanics doesnt change the fact that you will spend hours of just training and day skipping for nothing to show for.

Sandbox games is not an excuse to pad game time with meaningless repetitive tasks.

Literally the mother of all grind. There are probably Korean MMOs that have less grinding.

... which I would be fine with if the payoff was there. But it just isn't. The sex scenes are disappointing (at least the few I unlocked after like 8 hours of grinding). Especially the first scene with Lani feels very stiff and out of character even and not very rewarding. Which really made all the grind feel super pointless

The art is very colorful, somehow avoids the uncanny valley and is pretty unique. Easy 5/5 for the art alone.

I really want to like this game. The characters are interesting and I felt pretty invested in their stories and lives for a while. But it all kinda gets lost in the grind at some point.

My suggestion would be to mostly leave the grind as it is, make a few things easier/faster and make it more clear to the player when it's a good time to die and start over. Also maybe have slightly more carry over on death.
Then rework the sex scenes and make more of them (maybe with other NPCs if the main heroines' scenes are supposed to be late/difficult to get to be more impactful/meaningful). It is a porn game after all, and there is tons of teasing. Which would be great if, again, the payoff was there in the end. But yea, after all the grind the first sex scene with Lani has to be a 10/10 or it just feels like shit. Which it sadly does atm.

Great take on an incremental RPG idea with timeloops. Seems like ratings so far are very polar haha - I guess if you are not a fan of the gameplay it's not too much fun, but I enjoyed it quite a lot. Also looks like a decent amount of content is being added at each update, so I'm guessing some of the earlier reviews may be outdated by now.

Damn one of the best games mechanics wise, usually pretty bug free too, characters are pretty well written but the world building is where it shines, the gods and all their business is very interesting. Quite grind heavy but not in a bad way in my opinion, regularly feels rewarding like going for certain titles

my only problem is the error codes if you become too op which is quite easy like i have to skip sometimes an hour worth of content because of error codes and when i do come to it and fix the error codes i accidently skip again it since the game registers me as already seeing it.

Easily one of the grindiest game on the site. Almost zero content for several hours of sleeping on the skip button. The fist game where grind is actually squared, because you need to die and "rewind" to progress.

One day people will learn how to make good sandboxes, but unfortunately this game will not be affected by this.
Another game from the series entertain yourself trying to figure out what to do for two hours, and then just close it because you still haven't figured it out

It's hard to describe what makes this game great, but it's several different things that combined, it's great.
To start, you will die. It's a part of the gameplay, and the developer rewards you on your next playthough with various perks, and new scene unlocks. You lose alot, but also you gain alot by this trade. Your sex scene's restart, but you the player now have forsight on what will happen next, and your character has a somewhat understanding of some of the things happening to you via timeloop. It's a timeloop game done right, so 5/5 right off the bat.
The sex... it's really slow to get to. A long tease for most things.
The character writing, is absolutely fantastic. It's slowburn perfection, but there are slow hints throughout the game on what is happening. With it being a time loop, you see each interaction in a new light, and it rewards small hints being given.
I can't say it's a great porn game, but I can say it's a great game.

so, as someone who always tried to avoid died, i have a trouble to progress the story.

turns out you need a few times to died and rewind to get some skill, flag, item and other thing. but be careful cause exp and item mostly gone when you rewind.

the art is really good... well, some of thing are weird but the color is still really good. some event will change based on your progress with different girl (cat girl and the academic girl?) but because of rewind thing just progress with your guts.

The game starts off slow. I ended up playing a for a bit, but gave up after a few hours of making very little progress. However I came back after a couple months, and payed more attention to things, ended up playing this pretty much none stop. I don't stop till I'd done everything, which took a couple weeks at least. Lots of gameplay here. Multiple deaths, which I tried avoiding the first time I played.
Piece of advice don't avoid death, it's fine, in fact it's required to continue progressing, it's part of the story.
The premise as far as I can tell is unique, while also being classic RPG in style, as in you start off weak and useless, and you actually have to work and grind until you become a God.
I didn't care for it at first, but after actually giving it a proper chance it became one of my favorites.

After grinding for 30 game days you have to fight a chicken then win or lose you have to start the entire game over from scratch. ???

....ok....someone helped me with part....you have to lose and win several different times, each time basically starting over thus getting stronger...
However....I'm not sure how I'm supposed to know that I need to kill myself and start over just to progress in this game.

Need logs to upgrade the tent...There was a suggestion to kill the mc and start over to acquire those....Or some have had luck cheating but those options didn't work for me.

Graphics are nice.....weird but nice.

This game needs a little more story to grind, but once you get the hang of it it's a fun game.

Wasn't a fan of starting over but as I got used to it as being part of how you advance it isn't so bad. I doubt those looking for a purely porn game are going like it that much. Reason 1 for those 1 star reviews. But those of us who enjoy a good RPG then this game has potential.

It does need more story though so I have to subtract a star..

2010 gacha levels of grind for absolutely 0 content. The characters look nice but there is nothing to do the game, might aswell rebrand and tag "no sexual content"
I dont know how you can call something an H-game after 5 years of development and no sex scenes.

Very bad.

I was interested because of the unique character looks but , they don´t look good in the game just boring.

The sex scenes are boring too.

Music/Sound there are none.

The personalitys very shallow of every character.

The story is very bad and terrible written, the dialogue is bad too.

The sandbox gameplay is very bad and just boring and there are too many things happening on screen if you look at the inventory, or stats and stuff like that.

I came for the porn, I stayed for the gameplay.

Obviously no games are perfect, for me early access games that get 5 starts are rare, but they are games which have not only offered good content, but also great gameplay, Rewind is one such game.

If I had to describe it I would say its a roguelike RPG, where death is an essential part to advancing the game. The adult content Is high quality, and the mechanics of the game are actually very fun and interesting, I have put many hours into this game already.

PRO's

• The character advancement system is complex yet approachable, you can spend an entire life pursuing a single objective, then move on to the next and reap the benefits.
• The adult content is really good, the character art style looks really cute.
• There always seems to be at least one more thing that I can do, for an early access game it certainly has a lot more content than most.
• There are dungeons and lots of items, and so many things to unlock.
• It is just a fun game in my opinion, I would play this if it wasn't an adult game at all. It is more fun than 90% of indie games.

CON's

• Event tracking would be very helpful, for a game of this magnitude it would be very nice if I could at least keep track of the things I have or haven't seen, I don't need hints of how to unlock them necessarily, but it would help to know if I have missed anything, or if I am simply wasting time on a task that I have already maxed out.
• Advancement maximums would also be helpful, just like events, it would be useful to understand when I have reach the maximum advancement for a title or any other thing so that I can know when I should stop working on it, a good example is the temple, is there anything to be gained by getting my temple level over 9?
• There is a cooking system, but no concrete benefit to any of the dishes, it would be nice if they had lasting effects for the day so that cooking a specific dish actually did something. What's the point of eating a bag of dicks if the only thing that it does is make it less poisonous?
• More items/merchants would be good, there is only 1 place to sell things that I have found, and I have explored all areas that I know of, and once you get all of the pieces of equipment the only thing you can do is rewind with them again so you can have a set for each character, most of the items are either too weak to be used in the late game, or so powerful that you would always put them on any character that you have.
• I wish that I could revisit dungeons that I have passed on through the dungeon screen, it appears that you should be able to go to a dungeon at any time from it, but you cannot, and you must find it again if you have skipped it, kind of just adds to the grind in a game that already does have a lot of grind.

Really the cons are just a wishlist, I think this game is really good for what it is, for 3 years of work I can see that it has made steady progress, there is plenty of room to grow still. I would like to see more progress in some of the scenes for sure, but really if I had to ask for one thing it would be something like a gallery so that you can keep track of what you are missing. I am pretty sure I have unlocked all there is to see, but without knowing for sure I just keep playing, which is likely to cause burnout and disinterest over time and make me less likely to play future updates. I likely will keep following this game to see how it progresses, but as this is the first update I have played that will depend on how substantive the updates are.

As of: 0.2.9.3:

Graphics = Good.

Story = interesting and original for these types of games, and a new spin on a cliche in manhua/manhwa/manga, interesting world, interesting characters, and interesting premise, the content itself is not that much but what is there is fun to watch.

Gameplay = grind done right to get all the scenes you don't need to grind as much as most sandboxes, but if you want to max out your titles and stuff the grind can improve in many areas, it seems to me that the dev is preparing the base before continuing the story and such and that is actually good but it would be nice having a cheat menu to like "make temple/guild exp *10" or even less "*5" would be more than enough to diminish the grind right now but if the titles or rewards are to be given being lvl 10 it needs more missions/tasks or a cheat menu like I said, also it would be good having some choice on suicide like "make and drink highly concentrated poison" to get the title as my characters chances of actually being poisod are low right now, save with the potion thing, take the restriction out so that you can drink potions with full health as after the 3 rd incarnation I was so overpowered that I didn't even get damaged.

extra = love seeing the interactions between the characters and the stories forming, my main caveats are as said above.
