Note: I don't believe a complex opinion can be properly represented by a number but I do understand some people are impatient so I don't use the star system normally, my ratings are as follows. 1 don't recommend, 3 unsure please read review, 5 recommend
The Rick and Morty fan game, I won't lie I liked it more than I thought I would but goddamn does this game have some issues.
Let's start with the good, the art is over all good, I mean there's a limit to how good you can make the Rick and Morty style look but they manage it quite well all things considered, it retains the show's style while still having playable sex scenes plus it has a gallery.
The writing is decent, the dev does a perfectly reasonable job at capturing character voice which is rare for fan. . . well anything really? Few fanfics erotic or not are able to properly capture each characters voice. Not all of them are perfect, the ricks are slightly off as is Beth. The rest are pretty solid, oh and Jerry is way off but he's not important and barely in it anyway.
Now for the bad, I'll start with what people mostly want to know. I'm into incest as a fetish just fine, some aren't to each their own. But most people generally speaking aren't into say NTR. To be a bit more accurate there's a scene where you cuck your dad and a couple of scenes where you watch a girl fuck another girl. IMO fairly tame, I have less of an issue with NTR if I'm the one doing the cucking but I'd still rather not have it in the game or at least be given a choice, in this you aren't really? I guess you could just not do that part of the story but this is more of a visual novel than a game and it's kind of all their is, and you can't progress without doing it so eh. What I was not a fan of at all was the forced sharing shit. So there's a female morty (Mortica) because of course their is and the end of her storyline as of right now is a gang bang with Mr. meesex (get it), you're the only one in her pussy if that helps but I was not a fan of that at all and wished it could have been a choice instead of where her storyline seems to be headed. A final note about this is it seems to be it's not a harem game and it doesn't say it's supposed to be but I definitely think it would be better if it was one.
Now for the real WTF. So the game is broken, in a wide variety of ways the way you go from room too room is finicky as fuck, Instead of there being a map button for each building/area and arrows or a menu for each room, there's one menu that you need to scroll though to get to the map (labeled "outside" instead of map) 1 button where 2 would have been better. The phone is dumb as hell, there is a messages app and a messenger app, the message app does nothing, and the issue with the messenger app is you are the one who needs to text people as opposed to receiving a text meaning if you don't text them but progress the story past that point you can't go back and there quest is fucked, having a notification on the phone would have made more sense and make fucking it up harder. Speaking of quests the questing app is really bad, it's just a basic list of what to do next but sometimes it will say storylines are finished when they aren't or not tell you important details you need to properly progress.
There is one save slot and no menu for it, to save you hit the save button and the load button does nothing because their is only one save slot. If you fuck up part of someones path you can't go back and fix it because their is only one save slot and you wont realize you fucked up until you're too late. One of the scenes shows up in dialogue after you've completed it meaning you hit it again and see the same scene, that's not even that good in the first place and have to mash your spacebar because you didn't know you could skip through scenes you've already done with ESC, probably because ESC is the universal "pause menu" button and during scenes you haven't seen yet it does literally nothing which just means you can't access the pause menu while in a scene, and it also tricks you into thinking it doesn't do anything while you're in any scene. I didn't even know how to start Mortica's quest line until I'd beaten every other one and it was a total accident. when she shows up you need to talk to her before bed at night. I had zero reason to do this so I never did. I only knew about her scenes because of the gallery which is the only reason I even tried it. There is also a Halloween event I couldn't figure out how to trigger and now don't care enough to bother.
The current walkthrough is 4 walthroughs despite being able to do all the routes at once as far as I can tell. I recommend if you download this to use them because other wise getting to the next part of the story or a different story line may prove extremely difficult and time consuming, because sometimes you need to do things at certain times sometimes you don't even though the scenes may talk about the time of day, Mortica's questline needs to be started at night but literally every other thing can be done any time of day or night despite the dialogue suggesting otherwise.
Pretty much all of these issues beg the same question, why is this a unity game? Unity's biggest strength is it's versatility but that also means it's not superb at any one thing. So to make a visual novel type game you gotta reform the engine to do that, which is odd because you could just use a million visual novel engines and not have to do that, like Ren'Py. I suggest Ren'Py not only because it has a lot going for it but also because this game feels like it's running on a shitty version of Ren'Py. It feels like they're putting in a lot more work to make the engine function properly when they could just use an engine that has those things built in.
I assume the developer chose unity because they either made some shitty bloat wear games with it or because they're new to developing and unity is the engine everyone knows, which if it's the latter then kudos to them for the amount of work put in, it is a reasonably large game for a version 3, whatever that may mean.
That being said some of the scenes are pretty good and I liked the relationship between Tricia, Jessica, Relka, and Morty and it kept me going. Beth and summers story lines where fine and Morticia's was good until it wasn't. Despite those positives though I cannot in good conscious recommend this game in it's current state, might be worth the download to go through the Gallery if you're a big Richard and Mortimer fan but otherwise stay away until it's in a better state or heaven willing moves engines. I am gonna steer clear for now as I don't like the path of Moricia's story and I'd rather play more games with less NTR even if it's minor.
