I want to start by saying that there’s a solid story foundation here, and I genuinely hope the developer is able to return to it when possible.
The English translation isn’t the worst I’ve seen, but it definitely needs improvement. Awkward or unclear translation can really hurt immersion, especially in a story-driven AVN.
The graphics are decent—maybe slightly above average. Ideally, they could use some refinement, but I’d prefer the developer focus on finishing the story rather than redoing renders. For now, the visuals are serviceable enough to let the narrative carry the experience.
The lack of music or sound effects is concerning. There’s plenty of free-use music available that could easily enhance the mood and emotion of each scene. Without it, the story feels a bit flat and lacks urgency.
Now, onto my biggest pet peeve in AVNs: excessive inner dialogue. When every thought is spelled out, it becomes tedious and breaks the flow. Good visuals and expressions should convey much of that without relying on paragraphs of internal monologue.
With top-tier AVNs (the A & S tiers), the stories are so memorable that even after a year between updates, players still remember exactly where they left off. But with more average titles, it’s easy to lose that connection. Unfortunately, Rise of the Crime Lord currently falls into that latter category. I’m starting to worry the story might never reach completion.
I understand most AVN developers aren’t working full-time on their projects, but consistent updates—no matter how small—go a long way in keeping the audience engaged.
Overall, I think 3 stars is a generous rating; realistically, it’s closer to 2.5. There’s definite potential here, though. If updates become more regular and the writing gets polished, I’ll gladly revisit my review and adjust the score upward.
