the key is in fathers room. how to get to the party is another matter. after you get the key, the walkthrough says "now i have the key and can get to the party." where is the party? no idea

I found out, you can go to the party in the garage but you have to ask permission to go from Thomas and find the key every time you want to go to the party. Key ownership and permission status resets every week.

You should go to garage in the evening on saturday(maybe it works on sunday too). It worked once for me.

You can only go to the party on Friday, and as you said, to go to the party you need to go to the garage to use the car. I'll update the quest text to make it more explicit.

Weird, for some reason no matter how many times I enter the fathers room its either him banging the prostitue, sleeping, or the "Father is not in his room" message.
