Ren'Py - Rogue-like: Evolution [v1.70d] [Oni]

This game is extremely extensive, with surprisingly intertwined mechanics that make it worth revisiting periodically, even if they're not necessarily super deep. I was originally drawn to this because I was a fan of original X-Men cartoons and then Evolution, but then found that I really enjoyed the actual relationship-building aspects and, my absolute favorite, real sandbox FFM threesome mechanics. That's 5 stars on its own.

If you like the art style, it's great and progresses well during sex scenes. The relationship management across a large harem is sometimes phoned in, but it's nice to meet new people in different contexts and figuring out how to seduce them. There are so many women in this, and they're (mostly) great. If I was going to highlight a negative, it's that there's been serious character bloat and it sometimes ends up being disruptive. I think that as development continued the slow-burn relationship-building with Rogue, the original focus of the game, has gone by the wayside. However, it does give you lots of options - notably the original GOAT Rogue and the new GOAT Gwen.

Game got "Evolution" in its name but stayed the same for the last year and a half?
The game started good, now it's a total mess. If you play for more than 20 minutes it will become janky and laggy, gotta restart it every once in a while.
Aside from that, this game is becoming wide as an ocean and deep as a puddle:
-a dozen of girls with no personality. You might think they have one at first, maybe even with different preferences... yea no, they're empty shell that you can turn into sluts. You can have the same approach with everyone and you'll win against any "personality" they might have.
-clothing options are non existent, you can expand their wardrobe by buying a swimsuit or a lingerie set, which is not enough.
-sex position are almost the same for every girl, no significant variation in any model.
I'll finish with my personal most hated thing: the inconsistence of dialogues. I know it's obviously not intended, but it's frustrating to see a girl saying something like "I can't wait to suck that dick" only for the scene to evolve as she doesn't want it.
Basically the game gives you the freedom to do what you want without giving you a feedback to enjoy that satisfaction of doing what you wanted.

A great game, a wide selection of girls, plenty of opportunities to fuck them, and I think each one even has its own personality at first, until you completely corrupt her. I definitely recommend this game!

Despite all these years, there's still bugs galore. You lock the door, whoop, other people walk in. You fool around with everyone in the start, after that you get in a relationship, whoop, day after you get accused of cheating (despite it occurring before the start of the relationship). Fix your shit man, this is sad.

Good besides that, I guess, lots of interactions

A neverending Sandbox of Fun "Activities" with an evergrowing Host of
X-Girls. Design Choices on the Girls Faces and Poses are sometimes.... questionable, but overall a VERY Fun Playground for either a Male or a Female OC named Zero (Name Optional)

Pro:
* Some of the girls are hot.
* Lot of sex choices.
* Interactive romantic and massage simulator.

Con:
* Exaggerated clits, at least some girls.
* Forced ass to mouth scenes, no way to avoid, unless never do anal.
* Furry character almost forced on player, but can avoid by not check out 2nd attic, but you'll have to reload old save if you don't know what happens.
* Game is very grindy.
* Little writing, no story.

If dev fix forced A2M scene, would be 3.5 star, but forced A2M kink mean can't recommend.

It's good but I think there's not much that would make it outstanding.

The game is very much taking the approach of "More girls = Better"
It's not bad, just a sure way to burn out and leave the rest as mediocre.

Pros:

1. Lots of girls. Rogue, Kitty, Emma frost, Jean grey, Gwenpool, Squirrel girl, Storm, Wanda, Psylocke? (Elizabeth), Jubilee, Laura (Wolverine)
2. Lot's of H scenes: Each girl has different poses and H scenes
3. Very modular: As in it's easy to add content. Clothes, items, custom girls. Very expandable type of game.

Cons:

1. No story: Not even a basic one. You literally just chill at school and talk with people.
2. Unintuitive Menu's: The flirting menu's are convoluted. Moving to talk to girls in a location is annoying.
3. Grindy?: I'm not sure since I just bought swimsuits and went swimming to max out affection

This is a 9.7 / 10 for me. It is fun, and at the beginning there is plenty to do as you interact with the girls, but is not engaging because there is no story.

A story would make it great. A bit of training would also make it more fun.

Sounds would make this go to the next level.

Honestly there has been a surprising number of characters added to this game so far. It felt good when there was just Rogue, Kitty, Emma and a few others, but the dev kept going forward and adds pretty big features and really listens to their supporters.
Not a huge fan of squirrel girl, but you can just not talk to someone and it works out pretty well. There's no real story to the game, but the game was never really intended to be story-based, you're not out to save the world, you're just in a school with obnoxiously hot girls and you wanna fuck them and just so happen to have a superpower that makes your touch rather addicting.
Solid game, has a bright future for sure.

I started this game way back when there were only 3 girls : Rogue, Kitty and Emma. I must say the game has gone a long way and a good one by that.

As for the story, there isn't really a story. It's your classic sandbox dating sim, unless you count the X-Men world building as story because there are a lot of niche and cool lore snips and pieces in the conversations for each girl. Animations are good for an artstyle like this. It's also not that grindy like other sandbox games.

The only thing missing is sound, music would make the game far better like some ambient music for each background or like ambient background sounds like when you are at the mall you hearsome people mumbling or in the shower some water running, stuff like that . Moans and stuff should be added last in my humble opinion.

Overall a very good game in which you can see that the developer took their time and passion/love to make it.

This game is so addictive I can’t take my hands off it! The mechanics are unique, and as an X-Men fan, I love the style. It’s great that the devs keep updating it, but I think more improvements could make it even more epic. Still, it’s already a must-play! Character designs are stunning.
This game deserves every bit of praise.

"I was thoroughly surprised with this one, current update 1.61f has a lot of decent content in it that I wasn't expecting. Already this has an interesting theme, much like "Something unlimited" using the Justice league cartoon this uses the X-men Evolution cartoon as the source material, so right off the bat it should make a nostalgia nerd excited.

The "story" is kinda basic, your the new guy/gal and have a certain power that helps you get laid wrapped up in dating sim. Each character will have their own way of progression however the player can either push further or pull away to increase or decrease the relationship.

Gameplay is pretty standard, you have to talk, give gifts, be charming, etc. to get the girl. Depending on certain levels such as love (Will she want to do it), obedience (Will she do what you ask), and inhibitions (Will she do it in public) you may or may not be able to continue forward.

Art style is pretty good, it's really close to replicating the show's style with the obvious sexual side to it. It does look stiff though, occasionally the characters eyes will blink but other than the sexual animations they at kinda like cardboard cutouts. It's not a completely terrible thing, it's just hard to unsee that.

Animations aren't bad, though they do get stale after awhile. The threesome stuff should be worked on as it's literally just the second female standing behind the first with the game telling you what they are doing rather than showing.

No audio atm, unsure if it's gonna be added at all, but the dialogue is pretty good with only some minor hiccups here and there. Don't really need any voice work due to the characters calling you by name/ first initial though I could see the possibility of A.I. voice work reading the script or specific dialogue. Some music would be nice too.

So far my favorite characters have been Rogue and Psylocke, but that's mainly due to my own personal crushes lol. Rogue's powers being so dangerous and her finally being around someone she can touch made my heart happy. Overall I could see more characters being added but atm they have a good stack of the more known ones.

You only see mentions of any male characters such as Cyclops, Wolverine, and Nightcrawler and never a model which isn't disappointing but it is kinda like the scene from Shrek saying "Where is everybody". Only Professor X is shown but is only there to stop the player from doing anything in public till "persuaded" otherwise.

It's not AMAZING but it is worth a shot in my opinion. I think if the animations were spruced up and the threesome stuff had a little more, have more variety with certain standing and action poses, and some music for audio would make me LOVE this game."

Fun with with great dialogue and story, easy to play with a very intuitive user interface (UI), great characters that respect the original ones, and even without the mods it is already really excellent. The fact the characters have a personality is great and make it above a simple harem game.

the usual dating simulator with characteristics, there is no particularly good animation, but still the art is good and for fans of parodies it will come in, but it's not particularly interesting to skip a bunch of the same dialogues, but I like that the author did a good job with many characters.

I've played this game quite a lot over the years, following its development and I can say for sure this is one of those rare finds.

This is definitely, currently, the best trainer type of game I know of.
It is very non-rapey, with every girl being in a consensual or at least "mutually benneficial" relationship depending on how you play it and you can go full lovey-dovey with them focusing 100% on a single girl if you want to.

A summary is that, as a mutant, your touch (and bodily fluids) is both something that inhibits mutant powers and very slightly addictive.
This makes girls search you either to inhibit their powers or conditions for their bennefit or to get a "fix" of your touch, which you can deny and even make them immune to your addiction with different means if you want to remove that.

You have a lot of freedom to be a more loving dom or more of an asshole, yet being an asshole has a lot of consequences as the girls will dislike you and refuse you.

The main character is very much dominant with the girls, as this is a "trainer" game, so if you are more into switch or sub relationships, this probably wouldn't be your thing.

I very much love that Rogue from the Evolution animation and that design of Emma Frost and X-23, and a young Psyloche (Elizabeth),... and Wanda...
Anyway, the girls design is seriously S-tier.

Out of all the girls currently in the game, only 1 of them I didn't really like and she was a more recent addition, which I'm sure several people will like her body type more and the game still gives me an option to remove her which, in lore, is just Xavier sending her on errands around.

All in all, this is a very well deserving 5 out of 5.
The sex is basically Live2D technology without using Live2D technology.
From what I know, the dev created it 100% from the ground up before Live2D was a thing for Ren'Py which means the dev doesn't only have great taste and is an amazing writer, but is an unbelievable genious of a programmer as well.

This is that one game that if and when I'm more well off in my life, I'll definitely subscribe to their Patreon just because its fully deserved.

Super game when I play my hands are always on the table. Interesting mechanics and design always loved the x-men universe. it's good that the game is still being improved, there is still a lot that needs to be fixed and added, in my opinion, to make the gameplay more exciting and unforgettable

This game has been fantastic so far, offering plenty of content and quality dialogue. One of its best points is that it takes less time to play compared to similar games, which I really appreciate. the grind is barely there. The developers are constantly updating and improving it. I started playing when there were only three characters, and it's been great to see how much the game has grown over the years.

It is more good than bad game.

The story/text is coherent, there is a good variety of scenes and characters. Girls are well drawn for most part.

Where it gets clunky is the UI/levelling that could have used a massive rework.
Secondly, the sex ui itself is extremely clunky and after few times it gets boring/choresome to click those buttons. And you need to click them alot to grind out girls stats to unlock more actions, so it is kinda stupid.

There is an option to bully xavier and remove certain girls from the game, so they don't annoy you.

The scenes cgis themselves are nothing special, and endless repetition kills it.
Especially it shows in threesome scenes, where it is clear that cgis and text don't follow each other.

Review for version 1.53c. No mods.

Because the story is a bit blend, I stopped playing (grinding mindlessly?) after a while to directly check the code to see if there was some kind of variation somewhere.

Looking at the code to check what I miss at the moment, I haven't read everything yet and there's stuff I don't understand. What is the purpose of the JeanX.LikeSGirl (this is different from JeanX.LikeGirl stat, and created when threesome with whammy stuff is done line 6374 of script Sex)?

I also feel like there is too much hardcoded stuff. This is a nightmare to maintain, it might be better if the code generically call the girls parameters/fields and check for particular case rather than just a list of if/else for every combination, since there is a lot of copy-paste anyway between the sentences. Maybe that series of if/else also contribute to the game being slow.

The internal parameters for each girl may be a bit long doing that, but at least it's easier to read, and dev/we would just look at a Girl's file to see what is missing (and thus would resort to a default behaviour/sentence if there is an empty field, for example), what should be specific to that girl (or combination with other girls). This way, adding a girl to the game would be much easier to the dev too rather than modifying every if/else series in every file of the game.

Also maybe a more efficient/easy event queue/time slot attribution code could be done? Not sure which data structure would be the fastest in RenPy (which should be compiled in rpyc), and more easy to manage for the dev's objectives. Maybe a full interface so people could check planned schedules of each character in one look (if they have plans).

Right now I feel like every girl is the same, almost every interaction is the same except for distinct sentences, same methods of grinding, same actions and interactions with and within them, BUT A VERY FEW welcome differences, such as:
- Whammy Jean, but the mechanic is not very clear.
- Kitty being able to steal clothes from other girls, and also during a class on the teacher. Going through things could definitely open more kinky stuff...
- Betsy using psychic knife, mechanic not very clear either, maybe she could use it on girls in the future?

Just so people don't take this the wrong way, I like the game but it's not without flaws, and I felt like saying something different than other reviewers that could actually help the game improve, or at least help the dev progress more easily on this game. That is why I would put 4 stars and not 3.

So I am hoping for more, especially in powers impact, story and Xsome department, and variety between girls rather than just sentences. Though, this is already very nice in terms of content.
I also want to praise the dev for making the smart choice of using different combinations of superposed pictures rather than having a whole picture for each combination like many Ren'py VNs: this compress the size and allows people to mod more easily.
So many VNs out there have 4GB of file size, but have less content than this game.
