The Dev is known to abandon his prior games, so it could be a sign that part II is actually a remake of part I because part I failed to live up his expectation?

imo the first game is the one i actually liked best from all of his game. abandoning it would be very wasteful i think. and i don't think he plans to leave the first game since the answer are written in his comment here

I've had similar issues occasionally, mostly because the game is in low resolution and the screen is in high resolution. After clicking the shortcut, the game opens and then immediately closes with a different screen resolution. Before launching the game, reduce the screen resolution to a lower value (for example, from 1920 to 1280, and so on).
