Hello everyone! I'm a long-time observer on the site, and I'd like to hear some people's opinions on the concept of a game (unfortunately, there are no images yet).

So, it's an RPG with visual novel elements, to summarize the synopsis:

a college of magic (I'm not particularly a big fan of Harry Potter, but I think the theme has potential), the protagonist (initially I think it will be a trans woman, but to keep any tag optional there would probably be more than one protagonist option)
recently finished high school, she (or he) discovers that her grandmother was a great witch and is sent to an isolated magic school (basic cliche)

The game is a top-down RPG (I'm using Game Maker and probably Hs2 to render the characters) with active combat and exploration, where you move around the map interacting with characters and progressing with them in isolated story lines for each one (it would be complicated to interconnect the stories for the size of the cast I'm aiming for), I'm still undecided about the hours of the day system, but it would basically be you looking for the characters and progressing in their storylines (obviously with a practical guide telling you where to go)
In addition to individual progression with the characters, there would also be progression in groups of characters, for example: you can progress individually with the characters who hunt magical animals, but there is also a storyline and an end for this group of characters.

to summarize: it's like a standard "sandbox" visual novel made in renpy, but with a bit of combat and exploration.

So, I've got some of the common complaints about games like this (especially sandbox games) in mind.

I'll try not to make the combat feel like some kind of excessive grind, just some periodic battles maybe in the middle of a character's storyline. I have some tags in mind, it's not relevant, but I think it's reasonably easy to make them all optional.

So, maybe a little ambitious for a single person, but I'd like some opinions on that.

It's a fine concept. I feel like puzzles fit the magic school vibe better than combat. But I'm a general comat hater in porn games.
