So which RPG game is your favorite? If I had to guess most people are going to say Ren'py. Me personally I would say RPGM mainly because I prefer RPGs to Visual novels. Functionally I think they both do what they are designed to do well and the problems tend to come from when you try to force the engine to do what it isn't designed for. I mean you can make a visual novel in RPGM if you want I guess, however why do that when there are better engines designed the job.
It's a simple plugin script that exists for (most? all?) RPGMaker. Some devs just don't use it, but no idea why.Ren'Py
There are too many RPGM games that do not take into consideration the mouse or the controller, suddenly we end up playing the keyboard, and personally, I prefer to play with the mouse and have a free hand to do something else
So, I don't even bother testing RPGM games anymore, I don't download any more.
RPGM is an engine, so why compare RPGM and Renpy, when I can't compare them to Unity or any other engine out there?Renpy is a Visual Novel Engine it makes storybooks, it's not a game engine.
So you can't really compare the two.
If you want to make a Game, and you like the way that renpy handles text and pictures, renpy is open source, so you are free to use part of the renpy code, in your own project... several devs have taken to wrapping renpy in Unity for their projects.

Only for real 3D games. For 3DGC Visual Nevels, Ren'Py is better in every way from the player's point of view. Ren'Py is less hardware intensive, saves and loads work fast, there is a rollback function...Unity.
Certainly there are games for which RPGM is more suitable than Ren'Py, If it's really a game and not a visual novel. The problem is that people often use RPGMs for projects where Ren'Py would be much better.I have to say, I'm surprised that the results are 77%-23% and not 95%-5%
