There was some sort of sandbox mod or game that looked like RPM and had a character selection with tons of characters (some more complete than others) that played very different. It was grindy, rogue-lite start a hero journey from scratch. It was almost Elonaesque and when a character was defeated you could select a different one to continue and possibly rescue the previous. I think it was translated from Japanese.
