Hmm. Interesting. Do you have Locale Emulator installed? I think that has something to do with the difference in languages between the copy of RPGM and the original image file names.

I tried to use the Locale Emulator and MTool, neither worked

you actually have to set your system locale to Japanese , or your unpacking software needs to be set to Japanese unicode
