I think maybe a label got lost for the next set of lessons too. I encountered another crash when transitioning from basic lessons to the next set of lessons in that version you linked.
Oh for pity's sake Fatbot, get it together.
Sorry about this, I can't believe that I balled this up so badly.

I'm starting to thing I didn't hit Save after I did the Academic testing............

I've re-run the tests, fixed the errors I know I've fixed once already :(
And re-compiled!

Well this is why we upload Bughunt Versions I guess.

The upside is that every time you guys find a bug we get another butt!

And I hope they do.
Every bughunter on here is worth about 2 mes when it comes to testing.
With my dev/test time limited to about 90% of a working day's hours a week, no early releases through patreon etc. , and a test team of myself (and occasionally my wife if she can be bothered, but it's the same PC so it just changes who not how much) I'm heavily reliant on people from F95 to play the bughunt versions and help me find my cock-ups!
And I really appreciate you all for it.

Even if I have to use some creative imagination, I appreciate the open-ness of your development. It's a bit refreshing after watching a few games I'm interested in kind of devolve into anger fits the second anyone has a criticism. It's nice to hear that you're decent at planning out your progress and schedule to avoid burnout.

Anyway, thank you for furthering the cause of butts.
I'm just an oddly programmed robot making spanky video games as a hobby, what do I have to get grouchy about?
I'll keep trying my hardest to release what and when I can, and hopefully not bugger it up as badly as I did the last coupla bug-hunt updates :S

And don't worry about the art, I'm not taking a penny of the Patreon or BuyMeACoffee money for myself, after tax etc. it's all going back into the game (plus some money outta my own pocket) for the art I lack the skills to make.
I'm confident the artists can deliver, they seem really solid and down to earth folks.

Have you considered listing said artists as they produce the art you're paying for? I'm sure they'd appreciate the credit and the possible traffic to their commissions. With their permission of course.

Oh I've dropped and linked their names in here more than once already.

The LeraMor team did the concept art for me, and have quoted for a phase one set.

As soon as their art makes it into the game you can bet their credit will be on the main menu for all to see.

Happy Monday all!
Nothing to post this week, been busy trying to get Ruby's level triggers internalised into her object and create a button that'll let us turn off and on which stats we see as we play.

It's fairly challenging and introduces more bugs than it's fixing right now, so the only exciting thing I have to offer before Xmas is an update butt!

I'll keep an eye out for bug reports etc. and get right on them ASAP as always, but there won't be much work on the game until the new year.

Anyway, butt!!
Haven't had a CoCo butt yet, so here it is!

Marry Christmas from a definitely inebriated Fatbot, buying me a whisky sample set was a tactical error!
Ruby's got her Xmas Suit on, but can YOU tell what she wants for Xmas?

Back to my normal work routine :cautious:, back to working on the game :sneaky:!

After some work I suspect having menu for stat sliders you can turn on and off mid-game is;
1:Beyond my current level of skill
2:Gonna need a fairly ground-up rebuild of all sorts of related stuff

Sooooo the back-of-house stuff has been popped on the back-burner for now in favour of delivering another requested feature that I CAN knock out without a major over-haul.

I've added "Quick Mode" options for all of Ruby's Training and Punishment sequences.
Should cut grind down significantly for raising Trust and Punishment.

The complexity and organic-ness of Rewards means they're unchanged this session.
I'll essentially have to build a "have you seen this reward yet?" trigger into each one individually, and then give each a discrete check and offer of quick mode.
That's 64 individual new triggers and menus with little clusters of code so things don't go wonky.

I'm not sure why I'd include a skip option in sex scenes (that's the point of the game) or aftercare (which is mostly very quick unless you decide to abuse Ruby), so I'm leaving them alone.

Also dropped a couple of bug fixes I'd not encountered before.

And Patreon has finally reached the point where I can commission the next art piece, torn between a background or something NSFW to get people more interested in investing (the Patreons I have are all legends but there's a LOT riding on just them).

Anyhoo, updates means butts! And I finally figured out what Ruby wanted for Xmas!
Seemed like what she was after anyway....

I'm starting to understand why people bemoan Patreon.
BUT I should finally be able to get the donations out after the 18th and pay Darkkitsu (now soloing artist who did our tester) for our first background :D
That means the next session will be spent re-scaling all of the generative placeholders.
Which may actually be MORE boring for me than adding 56 new menus and skip labels/triggers.
Which was todays task.
But should make the game way nicer to look at.

After that it'll be on to adding the CnC pathway (so it's ready for more sexual content).
Ruby seems excited for it....

The day has come!
It's taken the best part of 12 hours work, and almost all my PixAI credits (I had near a quarter million when I started, now I have about 30k), to mill through the hundreds of duds to deliver a full set of upscaled placeholders and backgrounds.
Again, these aren't the final art, money is now winging its way from Paypal and I'll have arranged the first commission by next week :D
But in the meanwhile, enjoy the Upscaled Update!
As always there could be bugs, I've run some VERY light tests, but since there's no script change they should be minimal.

Equally as always Updates mean butts!
And in celebration of all the unused butts created today here are two of the least horribly mutated :D

It's hard to wait, i want to wait more to play the game but it looks and sounds so good it's hard to continue waiting.
Well the good news is that, now we're at this point, the next few updates will be more actual activity and not just polishes or overhauls :D
It may take a couple of sessions but the start of the CNC pathway (and ensuing fallout) will be the next big update.
That'll put all the foundations in place to add the 2nd tier activities and level-up actions.
Meanwhile I've just had notification that the Paypal has come through!
Huzzah!

Agreed that its a rough wait, but I wouldn't dissuade you from the course you're taking at all. Being as up front as you are is very nice, and I hope you're also doing ok.

Hi Fatbot, I tried RubyRed (4.4) for the first time and have some suggestions and feedback.
  • I enjoy the highly sexual world you've written with flirting professors and stealth BJ's under desks. I wholeheartedly endorse the sentiment that if you're making a porn game, cram in sexyness everywhere you can.
  • It would improve atmosphere and readability to have each character's speech appear in a distinct color and font. Currently everyone's text is just solid white which effectively makes everyone "sound" the same when reading. once and use it everywhere so you don't have to repeat the settings.
  • Sometimes a character's name and the background color are very similar shades making it distinctly eye-straining to read. Many renpy games use a solid color background for the textbox to solve this. Or you can be careful when choosing character colors so the background never matches them. I attached a screenshot of one scene with red text on red background as an example.
  • With regard to the trust/punishment system, simply labeling different speech options with words like (+Trust, -Punishment) would be more elegant and self-explanatory than the current color coded caret symbol system which you correctly recognized is unintuitive enough to require a tutorial explanation. Honestly as long as the game clearly signals the results of what happened after a choice (+Punishment, -Trust message), you could probably skip the prediction indicators entirely and let the player guess based on the choice text. Leaving some exploration and experimentation to the player is fine. Also there is save/load functionality inherent to Renpy so the player knows their choices are reverseable.
  • The current build has several different warnings about forcing yourself on Ruby, but when those choices actually arrive on screen they are not implemented. It is rather odd to read repeated, specific content warnings for stuff that doesn't exist.
  • I recommend adding a setting to disable the "Developer Talking To Player" sections that happen after the starting consent/fiction disclaimer. It is clear from their profusion that you love writing meta-narrative text, but it feels like I accidentally turned on Developer Commentary mode. These are not necessary or fun for a player who is trying to enjoy some porn. For example, currently when the player first meets Ruby there is this immersion shattering Developer Explains Trust and Punishment Mechanics interlude, which is made even more bizarre by having The Developer tell The Player how much they enjoy the harsh punishment choice. We know, if you made it you probably like it. Imagine if you are playing Skyrim and the first time you see a dragon the game pauses and Todd Howard spends a minute telling the player how cool he thinks flying lizards are and in this game you can kill dragons and absorb their soul, how awesome is that?! An option to disable these would make the actual gameplay much smoother.

Good luck with the game!
Cheers mate.

*Thanks for the useful UI feedback, most of that's an easy roll-out to add to the next update.

*The endgame as graphics update is to replace the current arrow system with icons that corrspond to the stat display in the top corner, which would be more intuitive.

*CNC is next update, so the placeholders will soon cease to be placeholders.

*Given that once we get into the CNC stuff the tone is gonna be potentially a lot darker, therefore content clearly establishing and reinforcing enthusiastic consent is vital, but I'll run an eye over it and see if it can be made more concise as I work.

Feedback and advice is always appreciated, when I'm back at the PC I'll add a bitt for you as is tradition.

Hmmm...... I too run at 1920 x 1080 and am not having the same issue.....
Not being able to replicate it makes it hard to run down.
Any tracebacks or error messages? Updated your Graphics Drivers lately, google suggests that may be an issue 9for what that's worth)?
Anyway bugs and feedback earns butts, so butts ahoy! (yet more rejects from the great upscalening, which will provide abundant butts for some time to come).
