RynEditor - Visual Novel Editor Without Coding Knowledge

Hello F95zone community,

I'm pleased to present RynEditor, a tool I've been developing to create visual novels in a simple and accessible way. Like many of you, I always wanted to create my own interactive stories but ran into the coding barrier. That's why I decided to create something that anyone can use.

RynEditor was born from the frustration of seeing so many incredible stories that never materialized due to technical barriers.
What is RynEditor?

RynEditor is a visual editor that allows you to create complete visual novels without writing a single line of code. The interface is intuitive and works directly from your web browser, so you don't need to install anything complicated.

Who is it designed for?

Writers and story creators who want to bring their narratives to life
Artists looking for an easy way to present their art interactively
Beginners in game development who want to start with something accessible
Anyone who has a story to tell and doesn't know where to start

Main features

Visual Script Panel
You can write your dialogues and narratives using an editor that looks like any word processor. You don't need to memorize special commands.

Character Management
Add your characters visually. Upload their images, define their names and characteristics. The editor handles the rest.

Scene Editor
Organize your story by scenes. Each scene can have its own background, music, and visual elements.

Real-time Preview
While you write, you can see how your visual novel will look. You don't need to compile anything or wait to see the results.

Ren'Py Export
When you finish your story, you can export it directly to Ren'Py, one of the most popular visual novel engines.

How does it work?

1. You write your story using the visual editor
2. You add your characters and backgrounds by dragging and dropping files
3. You organize the scenes in the scene panel
4. You preview your work in real time
5. You export to Ren'Py when you're ready

Why did I create it?

As a developer, I've seen many people with incredible ideas for visual novels get stuck on the technical side. I wanted to create a tool that would eliminate that barrier and allow creators to focus on what really matters: telling their story.

Is it really free?

Yes, completely free. No subscriptions, no usage limits, no catches. It's a personal project I share with the community.
What kind of stories can I create?

RynEditor is flexible. You can create from romantic stories to epic adventures, from linear narratives to stories with multiple endings. The only limitation is your imagination.

Do I need to know how to program?

Not at all. RynEditor is designed specifically for people without technical knowledge. If you know how to use a word processor, you'll know how to use RynEditor.

Can I use my own images and music?

Absolutely. RynEditor accepts standard image and audio formats. You can use your own creations or resources you have legally.

Current project status

The editor is in active development. Basic functions are implemented and working, but I must be completely honest with you: you will encounter many errors and bugs. This is a project I'm developing in my free time and, although it works, it still has many areas that need polishing.

I'm constantly working on improvements and fixes, but community feedback is invaluable to me. If you decide to try the editor and find any problems, or if you have suggestions on how to improve it, I would be extremely grateful if you let me know.
How can I try it?

You can access the editor directly from your browser. No installation required. Simply go to the website and start creating.

Important note: Currently the editor is completely in Spanish. If you don't speak Spanish, you'll need to use your browser's translator to use the interface. I haven't managed to implement a translation system yet, but it's something I plan to add in the future.
Mobile devices: The editor can be used on Android, but the responsive design still needs significant improvements. For this reason, it is highly recommended to use the editor on a computer for a better user experience.
To download the editor locally, once on the web you must go to the sidebar in "Download" and go to the "Downloads/Updates" submenu where you will find the downloadable versions.
Where can I get help?

If you have questions or need help, you can contact me directly. I'm also working on complete documentation and step-by-step tutorials.

Important: If you find errors, bugs, or have ideas to improve the editor, please share them with me. Your feedback is what helps me make this tool better for everyone.

Conclusion

RynEditor was born from the frustration of seeing so many incredible stories that never materialized due to technical barriers. It's my contribution to the visual novel creator community, a tool I hope will allow you to bring your ideas to life without complications.

If you have a story to tell, if you've always wanted to create a visual novel but didn't know where to start, or if you simply want to experiment with a new form of interactive narrative, I invite you to try RynEditor.

But remember: It's a work in progress. You will encounter errors, some functions may not work as you expect, and the experience can be frustrating at times. However, every bug report, every suggestion, every comment you receive helps me improve the tool.
The tool is there, waiting for you to use it to create something incredible. And if you help me improve it by reporting problems or sharing ideas, together we can make it even better.

Greetings,
The developer behind RynEditor

Note: This is a personal and open-source project. If you find any problems or have suggestions, don't hesitate to contact me.

It looks really nice, Maybe you can add more tools for help story making and creating visuals. Also if you add some AI support, from local or from cloud. That will be peak, but I think you should first and first implement translation system, then just use LLM to generate English translation. You will get more audience from that.

As far as translation is concerned, I'm working on that, because the editor always deforms when I translate it, so I tried it with the default translator that comes with the browser and works well too, at least until I add its own translation and it works without internet

It seems pretty good. Are you going to do a step-by-step tutorial?

RynEditor v1.0.2 - Visual Novel Editor Update

Hey everyone! I wanted to share an update about RynEditor, a visual editor I've been working on for creating Ren'Py visual novels. Version 1.0.2 brings some significant improvements that I think you'll find useful.

What's New in v1.0.2:

Enhanced Background System
The background selection has been completely redesigned. Instead of the old list format, you now get a modern visual gallery where you can see all your backgrounds at once. But that's not all - you can now also use solid colors as backgrounds, not just images. There's a predefined palette with 12 common colors, plus a custom color picker if you want something specific. The best part is that backgrounds show up immediately in the preview, so you can see exactly how they'll look.

Sprite Thumbnails
Working with character sprites is now much more visual. When you add sprites to a character, you'll see thumbnails automatically load in the character creator. The sprite list has been redesigned as a gallery with cards showing each sprite, making it easier to organize and manage your character assets. You'll also see status indicators showing if an image is loading, if there's an error, or if it loaded successfully.

Interface Improvements
The interface has been modernized with professional icons replacing the old emojis, giving it a cleaner and more professional look. Features that are still in development are now clearly marked, so you know what's available and what's coming. The overall organization has been improved to make everything more logical and easier to find.

Technical Optimizations
I've cleaned up a lot of the code, removing debug statements and optimizing performance. The editor should run smoother now, especially when working with images and assets. Memory management has been improved, so it should handle larger projects better.

Bug Fixes
Fixed several issues with the preview system. Backgrounds now appear instantly when you add them, and the preview automatically activates when you add new elements. The visual feedback for scene changes has been improved, and file management is more robust with better error handling.

Usability Improvements
Removed some potentially dangerous buttons like "Delete All" to prevent accidental data loss. The interface now provides better feedback about what's happening, and navigation has been simplified to reduce confusion.

How to Use RynEditor:

Online Version:
You can use it directly in your browser at:
No installation required - it works completely in your browser. It's recommended for PC use, though it also works on Android (I'm still working on improving the mobile interface).

Offline Download:
If you want to use it offline, you can download it through the editor itself:
1. Go to the "Downloads" menu in the editor
2. Look for the "Download/Updates" section
3. Download the offline version for local use

Technical Details:
- Type: React/HTML web application (not a traditional program)
- Size: Less than 100 MB
- Languages: Spanish (use browser translator for other languages)
- Compatibility: All modern browsers

What is RynEditor?

RynEditor is a visual editor for creating Ren'Py visual novels. Instead of writing code directly, you can design your story visually and the editor automatically generates the Ren'Py code for you. This means you can:

- Create characters, scenes, and dialogues through a visual interface
- See exactly how your novel will look while you're creating it
- Generate clean Ren'Py code that you can continue editing in Ren'Py if needed
- Focus on your story rather than learning Ren'Py syntax

It's perfect for beginners who want to start creating visual novels, developers who prefer a visual workflow, or anyone who wants to rapidly prototype and test their story ideas.

Current Status:

- Version: 1.0.2
- Status: Active development
- Features in Development: Real-time collaboration, advanced tools
- Stability: Works well for basic to intermediate projects

Feedback & Support:

I'm actively looking for feedback to improve the editor. If you try it and find any issues or have suggestions, please let me know! I'm particularly interested in hearing about:

- What features would be most useful for your workflow
- Any bugs or issues you encounter
- Suggestions for improvements
- Ideas for new features

What I'm considering for future updates:
- More transition options between scenes
- Integrated music and sound effects system
- Predefined templates for different novel types
- Better file organization system
- Multi-language support

Try RynEditor:

You can use it directly in your browser, or download the offline version through the "Downloads" menu once you're in the editor.

---

I hope you find RynEditor useful for your visual novel projects. It's designed to complement Ren'Py rather than replace it, making visual novel development more accessible while still allowing you to dive into the code when you need more advanced features.

If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to let me know!
