Really fed up with many games that cannot retain a save as you try to update. The solution is to delete the entire game and not play it ever again. Tired of starting from the beginning.

What engine are you playing on that's having this issue? If it's Ren'py games, then it's sometimes unavoidable that devs have to change some things that make saves incompatible with new updates. Also a downside of playing leaked versions, as often they're betas and test versions that are broken.
