This was the first Rance game I have ever played and dropped pretty early as well. It was so hard an unforgiving at first that I started playing this with guides to know what to do at which turn. It quickly turned into "The Stanley Parable" and I dropped the game.
Later I played other Rance games and I got to know the world and the characters better. When I returned to the game again I swore not to use guides. With more familiarity of the characters and how a Rance game usually operates I had a blast with this game. I rarely replay a game, especially a H game... I finished this game at least 10 times so far having almost all achievements. I even inserted mods just to make it different.
Sengoku Rance is not a game that you should start the Rance series with, it should be at least your 2nd or 3rd Rance game. This way you know why other characters don't like or even love Rance when they join the party.
Other than my previous yapping this game fulfills what I view what an H game should be. It should be like a normal game, but with broader tools. An E rated game may show that the hero and princess loves each other like holding hands and walk towards the sunset, but in an H game more powerful feelings can be shown like the hero serving 3 creampies in a row and the princess asking for more. Most games just put emphasis on the H part and neglect the others, but not with this game.
This game is built on previous stories, previous rich characters and introduces more rich characters as well whom may be important in later games. Heck even what has happened so far has influence on this game as where Rance can get reinforcements for example.
And not just all these points, but this game is replayable as well. Offers many other routes which play differently and plays out differently as you change your decisions how to play. It can be so random that I am not gonna lie I had to delete my saves twice, because I saved so much in this game. And IIRC the save limit is 9999 slots so figure out how much I have played this game.
This game slams so hard that I feel like Mr. Ono from Persona 3. When I play older Rance games and when Mr. Ono teaches Japanese history both of us have the same problem: "I don't care about this, lets get to the Sengoku era for gods sake!"
