This feels like it was made twenty years ago. Clunky game design, obscured stats, this has the problem of being complex but shallow.
If chess is an example of a simple but deep game - symmetrical play, very few types of pieces, no random elements - this is the opposite. A lot of game pieces and mechanics to learn and weigh up, but extremely repetitive once learned. The complexity keeps making every decision and move tedious and clunky to play, though.
The character design and illustration is very good though, and there's a lot of them, so it still gets a 2. And there's definitely a nostalgia factor for the RPGs I played twenty years ago that made me enjoy it for a little while.
