It's far from being the last update. There is still at least 0.9 - 0.10 - 0.11 - 0.12.
I was rather surprised myself that anyone thought the game was going to end soon, “soon” being a very relative term in this context. Having chatted several times with GleenX on Discord (as Mandalore), he had hinted to me that he apparently still had a lot of work to do on this game before he could finalize it and move on to the next one.
Although I know he'd like to diversify his projects and and push for new ideas, I think the person who thought that was a little too hasty.
Incidentally, it's been mentioned many times on F95 that the version numbering systems for games published/leaked here doesn't mean much, nor is it really representative of a game's state of progress before its final release (unless the dev advises otherwise); it's specific to each developer and their way of proceeding.GleenXstudio : I wish you all the best for the end of the year, my dear compatriot, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with at the beginning of next year; I know in advance that it will no doubt be very good
