They post their games here or join discussions of their games on this site, but when I go to
their Patreon or Subscribe star sites there are hardly any post that are not behind a pay wall.
Many of the most successful Developers give there customers and other free update photos
of the game they are trying to sell. Putting all the photos and post behind a pay wall is akin
to a selling products in a store that are in plain cardboard boxes, but sending out flyers with
with photos and descriptions to non buyers.

To you developers
F95 Zone is great for advertising your games but your pay sites are where you make the
sale. You should spend a bit more time in trying to finalize the sale to potential customers
that visit your sites.

Just a thought.

For Patreon it's normal, they do NOT have the right to post adult content that isn't behind the paywall ; they would be banned if they did. And perhaps is it the same for SubscribeStar, I don't know. Therefore, some/many of them also have an account on twitter, deviantArt, or any other platform that permit them to publish this kind of content without restriction.

One could argue that they still can post none adult content, but I assume that then you would have been complaining that there's no interest in such content...

Just a thought.
Well, next time think a bit longer before implying that creators do a bad job at advertising their game.

There usually isn't a disclaimer that pops on patreon "we dont allow our customers to advertise their product on our site" and it's a bit illogical so you wouldn't assume that to be the case.
There isn't, but that doesn't stop them from banning every porn creator they don't agree with.
Mantis-X, The Agnietta dev, the list goes on. Patreon is well known to be REALLY fucky with fucky, ironically.

-brevity-
Because people go to those sites for porn notifications, not the Nth post of, "Porn?" "Porn machine broke." "Not understandable, unsubbed."
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
The site has features to allow pinning (Subscribestar) or detailed creator descriptions (Patreon) for relevant info.
As a final point, it is WILDLY unlikely that anyone would consider supporting a porn dev with no idea of what their product is like. Not saying it isn't plausible, but let's be real. If you're considering support a porn dev, it's because you've already seen some of their work, and want to financially support them.
(Now, if you wanted to talk about e-strippers and lewd cosplayers, that's a different topic I'll happily agree with you there on.)

When you go to whatever all public site and see a partly blurred photo, you don't assume that the photographer is an idiot, you believe that the site can not publish the uncensored version. This even with the total lack of disclaimer stating that they can not publish nudity.

They are well known to fuck with those who don't cared to read the Terms of Service, or believe that they don't apply to them ; it's not really the same thing. And yes, it's wrote on their ToS that adult content have to be put behind paywall.

The devs i support, I basically didn't care in the slightest what was visible before subbing. I'd already seen/played their content and I subbed either to support them or get early builds. I sure as hell don't trawl Patreon for interesting games, so I don't need to be advertised to.

The point I was more making, is that even when creators have flagged their stuff mature, the ToS enforcement is wild and mixed at best. Yes, I understand they have specific guidelines to artwork NOW, but that was not always the case. Nor was it all exactly fairly implemented nor enforced. Nor with good warning, a la the Game Jolt an hero move. I'm not disagreeing with you implicitly, but more so highlighting other points in this.
Or maybe I'm just a huge pervert too into the fringe, and got upset for my favorite creators getting the ol shove.
Who can say, really. Not this one (me), that's for sure.

Except that this isn't common knowledge and it's not the normal way of handling adult content. Any normal site lets the creator tag the content as adult and the website would handle doing an age check and/or requiring creating an account to view it. Before your post here, i had no idea Patreon did this and i shared the same frustration as the OP.

Many do but there's also many who don't.

Is this new? For images I get that nudity has to be hidden from the general public. But for download links, progress updates, and general previews devs have been posting public versions for years. Ecchi Sensei for example has plenty of character images and download links in the description, but hasn't had an update post available to the public since 2020. Seeing as how Tease Me never specified adult pictures, this year of public silence through private posts seems like exactly the kind of thing they're describing.

Regardless of the issue of Patreon's rules about adult content, I agree with the OP's general sentiment. Too many devs put everything behind a paywall, even things that aren't renders of tits. It's just annoying and makes it unnecessarily harder to find out information about a game. It's obviously fine to put things like the download links for new game versions or extra renders behind the paywall if those are perks for your patrons, but it's just annoying to paywall stuff like changelogs or progress updates. Also, thanks for the random porn, that should be a requirement for every discussion thread.

Out of curiosity, All this sentiment puts me in an interesting spot. You see I post weekly builds... if I split those between the changelog and updates well then all the information would become disassociated so who see the builds wont have that changelog right next to it. Splitting the update away from that as well, feels like I'll just end up spamming everyone with a big pile of updates once a week.

That seems... excessive? I suppose I'm biased because I actually dislike games that put out constant small updates instead of taking a long time and putting out a substantial amount of content, but that's the first time I've heard of a dev updating weekly.

To your first reply. Many of the more profitable Developers post non adult content on there patreon pages.
Posting only adult content behind the pay wall. Dark Silver for one, hate him or love him he is successful.
I follow Darkhound who also does quite well and shows many non adult images on his page.

To your second. You ASSume to much, but you are not making an ass of me by that.

To your third. I thought of this for a while. I try to research games before subscribing and I find most of
the games I research that are completely behind a pay wall are abandoned quickly or have a weak following.

Not showing your product to your intended customers is not good business no mater what you are selling.
Porn sites advertise safe content on the internet all the time, Why because it is good business.

It is not an implication that they do a bad job of marketing. You can not blame Patreon for every thing.
Many games that do well here have content banned by Patreon. They do not advertise their taboos there
but have no problem showing it here. Many patched games are done so by the developer or with the
developers blessing.

Well the weekly builds are patron only, public builds every 2-4 weeks.

I've found it works well for me as a developer, the constant builds help me keep a good development pace. True that not every release is jam packed with content, from a few hundred to a thousand lines of dialogue (Or substantially more if it's a code heavy week). My patrons as well seem to appreciate it though and have been quite vocal about that, so that just means that people have different opinions about things.

I'd be curious as to which one was more in favor, but I don't think it will change what I have found works best for me, after all I think we can all agree that we shouldn't change something that is working.

I am talking about all post behind a pay wall. there is a header normally an image of the game characters. Followed by a subscription
section with three tiers. then post after post of.

Unlock this post for 3 to 50 dollars.

One of my Developers posted 7 public images this month. True they do not depict BJ or TJ or FJ or Anal or Cream Pie but they show me the developer cares enough to show some progress to the public, and most of the pics a sexy.
