I'll throw in a bit of my own opinion:
For some reason, the developer made the game more like real life (or so he probably thinks). I don't know, of course; there are probably players who enjoy challenges like beating Dark Souls unarmed and the like. But here... people come to relax, not bang their heads against the wall, seeing that they've already failed with the 20th girl. And then they either look for an older version of the game or give up on it. Does this contribute to an increase in players (those willing to pay for it)? I don't know, I just stopped playing it.
This is a sex game, about sex, not about overcoming obstacles to it.
