Some questions for the masses

I've been a long-time lurker, and I have some particular tastes in games. I've noticed quite a few things I don't like, and quite a few things I do like among a multitude of different games that appear here. I come from a game development background and have toyed with the idea of making my own game, but nothing has ever really been concrete enough for me to spend the time and effort (yet!)

So here's my question, or questions, rather. I'd love for you to elaborate your answers as well. I'm actually genuinely interested in what people like and dislike and why.:

1) For a Real Porn game, does it matter to you if the main character is depicted by a multitude of different media of different people, or would you rather it be all one person? Is a happy medium good where it's mostly one person and there are assets that look similar but aren't?

2) Does downtime in a game bother you? What I mean by downtime is like walking from Point A to Point B in RPGs, or the absolutely horrid amount of clicks to go anywhere in most Twine games.

3) What are your top three games on here? Can you list five things you like about each? What about five things you dislike about each?

4) Do reoccurring models/assets bother you? A lot of games use Daz, Real Porn, or other bought assets, does it bother you to see the same faces over and over again? Does the new story, plot, etc change this for you at all?

5) Do you need assets in order to enjoy games? Or are you more of "if the story is good" type?

1. I don't typically enjoy real porn games for that reason, most of the time I prefer it to just be text instead and if you can't disable them I kinda just move on. I can never get immersed in them, I just see a gif from a porno, not a scene that supposedly happening in game. When it comes to text games I prefer to use my imagination.

2. A bit, it depends mostly on the gameplay and if there is anything to gain while doing it. If it's just filler and waiting then I don't really see the point in having it.

3. Too many too choose from really. But I mainly go for "sandbox" games. It might be overdone at this point, but I can't help but enjoy and get excited for the various Big Brother incest type clones like Milfy City, Man of the House or The Twist and games like it. I'm also really fond of text-based RPG's like(Mainly Lilith's Throne because because you can turn off a lot of the furry/transformation/gay stuff that a lot of these games have). Anything in full 3D will usually get a download from me, even if they are often disappointing and I get bored of them quickly. Overall Top 3 is probably Summertime Saga(I know, but man every time I replay it I have an amazing time), the aforementioned Lilith's Throne, and Four Elements trainer. With Man of the House a close forth.

4. Not hugely, yet. Commonly used background assets like props and stuff don't bother me at all, but faces can get a bit distracting. Usually I'm able to get past it since admittedly, often I don't even notice it until other people point it out.

5. For me it's less about the story and instead the gameplay that matters. Or more precisely what the gameplay allows you to do. Just something as simple as say, being able to walk around your house and choose when and who to talk to helps a lot to make the game more enjoyable IMO. As for visuals, just keep it consistent. If it's a DAZ game, only use assets that fit with the high quality character models, if it's a text game, focus on text(with maybe the occasional portrait), if it's drawn, don't mix art-styles and so on.

Hello,

1) I don't play games that use real photo/video and stuff like that. I think it's just that my brain can't get over the idea that it's ... shit from a guy who didn't take the time to try to find a correct solution to produce the game. While I imagine that for some it's just that they prefer it (real images). But yes in the end for me I prefer uniform media and in general rather daz3d.

2) It depends on the game I would say ... But in absolute terms I would prefer to do without it. That said, I prefer that than VN type games which ask you to click 5 times during a dialogue to click on a single choice ....
In short, clicks are bad unless there is an interesting purpose for theme (for a well done rpg for example)

3) - Big brother: I like the character models, the clean and easy to use ui, the simplicity of the dialogues (it does not go around in circles to say something), the sex scenes, the overall quantity of content, even if the end is missing.
I don't like ..... the grind, the fact that it is not finished, the dramas around the game, the fact that I have not yet found something of this level since (close but with others default), the lack of animation.

- Treasure of Nadia: I like some characters but not all, some mini games but not all, the animations, the simplicity of the dialogue...
I do not like it to be on rpgm with all the worries that it entails (saving, moving, resolution ...), the too large number of female characters, some mini games, some models, rpgm ... I've said it before, it must affect me quite a bit.

- A house in the rift: I like the work done as a whole around honey select type graphics, the story as a whole, some sex scenes.
I don't like it to be honey select graphics, some models, waiting for more.

4) Yes when i dislike the modele and its old, otherwise no. I sometime avoid game just for that. At least for daz3d graphism, because... i don't know why there is some modele i realy don't like and its fucking coming everywhere...

5) I wish I could say that story is enough, but no. That said, I like to play some games even if the graphics are not great. Sometimes even when the female models are not entirely to my taste. But it's rare. And not simple text or graphism that don't depicte the scenes.

Small addition that should go in the direction of the questions:

Sometimes it is rather simply the taboo that is depicted that is important and not what is used to do it.

1. Not interested when i could just watch normal porn, no need to game IRL stuff
2. I actually like it! porn games are still games at the end of the day and gameplay is needed, and in some cases ill play a porn game completely unhorny and do side activities and quests and enjoy doing it
3. I cant really say if i have a top 3, most of my backlog are all pretty great and have different elements for my fetishes so i couldnt rank a top 3
4. i find it that the faces are actually quite different or have substantial changes and its infact the same boring drawn out story that gets pumped everytime (18 year old whose father died and now living with his mother and 2 hot sisters...)
5. If by assets you mean quality of the characters and how much of it there is i would say to an extent, some daz assets looks kinda bland and undetailed and arent really that amazing to me and others are more detailed and look visually stunning

1) For a Real Porn game, does it matter to you if the main character is depicted by a multitude of different media of different people, or would you rather it be all one person?
"Real porn" CG are rarely the same girl to represent the same character, and rarely correspond to the described context, what make me totally avoid games using them. If I wanted to fap over a bunch of photo, I would browse a site presenting photo sets, not play a game.

2) Does downtime in a game bother you? What I mean by downtime is like walking from Point A to Point B in RPGs, or the absolutely horrid amount of clicks to go anywhere in most Twine games.
I have nothing against the need to walk from Point A to Point B, as long as it have a real meaning, do not take too long (nor too much of the time past playing).
As for the "horrid amount of clicks", the name resume my thoughts, it's horrid. I can indulge with "a little too much click" situation if the interface don't permit to do better, but most of the case it come from a really bad design of the game flow. And if the design is so bad, there's not much to expect from the rest of the game.
Not too strangely, the points 1 and 2 are generally found in the same games.

3) What are your top three games on here? Can you list five things you like about each? What about five things you dislike about each?
Heavy Five, I like it for story, the quality of its CGs, its humor, its user interface, and just because it's a pleasant game to play, and there's nothing I dislike about it.
The DeLuca family, I like it for the exact same reasons, and the two things I dislike is that there isn't enough Luna content, and Cordia isn't my mommy.
And as third game... hum, difficult. I would say Triple Ex, and that the two things I like about it is its story and the fact that there's nothing that I dislike about it.

4) Do reoccurring models/assets bother you? A lot of games use Daz, Real Porn, or other bought assets, does it bother you to see the same faces over and over again? Does the new story, plot, etc change this for you at all?
It's annoying, but by chance authors starts to discover that you can apply morphs to your figures, making the "way too much used" girl model look a little different than in other games. The time where all games where using the tenth same assets is behind us now.

5) Do you need assets in order to enjoy games? Or are you more of "if the story is good" type?
The story matter, but if you put something ugly, or "real porn", on top of it, you can have wrote the next best seller, I wouldn't even care to look at it. Not that the quality of the CGs matter by itself, but it's not possible to effectively enjoy the story while you can't see a CGs without thinking how bad they are.

Edit: Few too obvious typos.

1) Consistency is appreciated as it helps immersing yourself in the story, but there will be players who can look past it if they like the gameplay.

2) Yes. It's fine at first, but a constant very useless grind wears down the enjoyment fast and leaves behind only frustration.

3) I've gone through a lot of games so i can't say I have any. As such, no and no.

4) A more able and active dev will customize their characters even a little. Good gameplay can offset the discomfort.

5) I can't really say i'm the story type. I generally start skipping text after a while as it gets boring just going through endless lines, so if there's no assets, then gameplay seems to be the most important part for me. I can play text games just fine, but they have to grab my attention and keep it there.

1. I don't play real-porn games.

2. I have some patience for repetition. What I can't stand is huge chunks of dialogue/cutscenes without any downtime.

3. It's tough to just pick 3, but I'll say:

Star Knightess Aura:

+ Slow-burn, comprehensive corruption arc
+ The sexual aspect is in the player's hands and integrated with the gameplay
+ Probably the best gameplay I've seen on RPGM
+ The new art and maps are quite nice
+ Dev is nice and active on F95
- Occasional typos
- Clear anime influence, which makes some things seem strange to non-anime-fans, myself included
- MC and her rival are... an acquired taste, some find them too OTT but it works for me because the writing is quite good
- Fights can get repetitive, usually you get no rewards out of them either, you're just clearing the way
- Good bit of backtracking in longer dungeons/areas

NSight of you:

+ Asstons of animations, like hundreds and hundreds of them. One of the perks of working with Honey Select, I suppose.
+ Good writing, often funny if you like crusty memes and Batman references
+ Nails the non-con/dubcon trainer theme
+ I hate Gloria but love to punish her
+ Again, dev is friendly and engages with the community here
- The gameplay is unbalanced in places and not really supposed to be much more than a way to pace the game and make the player feel more involved
- Despite being primarily a trainer game, there is a romance subplot and some scenes with a secondary character that are unavoidable, which just crimped my trainer groove.
- Minor performance issues, probably Ren'py related. Might just be on my system, but I have a quad-core and a GTX that plays the video files just fine on their own.

Corrupted Saviors:

+ Some of the best gameplay I've seen in an ero-game, period
+ Amazing replayabiility
+ Most hands-on non-con corruption you'll probably ever see
+ Dev is a real trooper, releasing monthly updates like clockwork, being active on F95 and doesn't even accept donations
- No graphics, text-only
- Serious learning curve, probably drives away even some players that would be in for a text-only demon-assault psychological trauma simulator

4. I see plenty of it in my RPGM games, obviously I don't want it for main characters and there shouldn't be too much of it overall, but having some recognizable assets is not the end of the world.

5. Corrupted Saviors is just text on a black background and it's one of my favorites, so I'll say no. But not having graphics is a downside because I then have to use my imagination, which adds to the mental exertion of playing story-heavy or complex text-only games. Though it's actually less unappealing than Koikatu, which I almost always avoid, or real-porn, which I simply don't play.

I am very much the same way. I don't like mixing of styles AT ALL.

1) Yeah, I've noticed that too. I've enjoyed a few but not nearly as much as I've enjoyed 3D or 2D games. The ones I have enjoyed haven't been based on the premise, not really anything else.

4) I didn't think morphs were a thing, so I'm starting to look into DAZ. Could be interesting.

5) I get this entirely. I tend to pay attention more if it has a good story, but having something that doesn't look very good on top of it makes me focus less on it.

I was going to reply to all of you individually, but I'm not forum savvy enough to do that just yet. Y'all raised some interesting points and I thank you for taking the time to do so!

From the small amount of feedback I've gotten, I think I have a pretty good idea of where you're coming from. Real Porn seems to be a niche market (I didn't realize just how niche) in comparison with 3D and 2D games. Engaging gameplay, engaging story/writing, and decent visuals seems to be the way of the future! I'll spend some time checking out your favorite games too. Most I had not seen or skipped over.

This is one of the reasons this site needs to let us blacklist tags. If a game uses real porn, it's an automatic reflex to click "ignore thread." My problem with real porn images is 1) many images that people choose turn me off, and 2) there's zero abstraction. Basically you're leaving absolutely nothing to my imagination and i don't like that. I would even make an argument that having too much detail and a high quality render is actually a bad thing. For me, less is often more.
2) Does downtime in a game bother you? What I mean by downtime is like walking from Point A to Point B in RPGs, or the absolutely horrid amount of clicks to go anywhere in most Twine games.
As long as it's reasonable, no. Basically you should not be wasting the player's time unnecessarily or trying to artificially inflate the gameplay time. If there's no event that can trigger or nothing to explore, then travel between points should be as efficient as possible.
3) What are your top three games on here? Can you list five things you like about each? What about five things you dislike about each?
Note that these are in no particular order and do not do a good job of representing the typical game i want to play. I would say that Trap Quest has the gameplay most like what i want to play, just that there's many things i dislike about TQ and its development.

I have noticed that some school-setting 3D games in Unity use the same models and that hasn't bothered me at all. I think it's because they're not detailed character models so they can be applied generically to different game situations.
5) Do you need assets in order to enjoy games? Or are you more of "if the story is good" type?
The important thing for me is how information is conveyed to the player. I'm willing to play a text adventure with no images if it does a good job at it. What i don't like is reading essays during combat situations, or reading novels in between actions. In my opinion, the player should have an action for every screen in a text adventure. If i have to click through multiple screens in-between actions i feel like i'm reading a story and not playing a game and that's not what i want. It's okay to have some details about the combat but i don't like lengthy paragraphs for every turn, and it should always have a quick summary of stat changes for every turn as well (e.g.: stamina -10, vitality -5). I also prefer to see many stats at all times off to the side or somewhere convenient.

Very good points, honestly. I use real porn games as quickies, honestly. My favorite games are all 3D or 2D, though. Interesting to see just how many people don't actually like Real Porn games. Seems it's kind of a niche.

I do have a question for you specifically: You mention leaving some to your imagination. Do you have the same issues with 3D and 2D games? They don't leave much to the imagination, but I also don't have the same imagination as you (or anyone else) so I'm curious.

I had completely forgotten about Anthropohobia! Great game, honestly. Can't remember how far I got into it but I did quite enjoy it.

I get what you mean by the story part. I don't necessarily mind it if I'm playing a text-based game like TiTS, but I find myself skipping most text in many games, including VN's just because it's too much without much "gameplay" or "action." It's like reading erotica, except I have to click instead of just scroll.

Yep. I was struggling to find the right way to phrase it but basically the more realistic your characters look, the higher the chance is that it doesn't align with my preferences. We all have different criteria for attractiveness which is why i think that too much realism is a bad thing and why i hate real porn images.

Just to be clear for others, i don't expect anyone to follow what i said. I've only selfishly stated what i want from games because that was the point of this thread. To each their own. If people enjoy aspects that i don't, that's fine.
