Review as of EP. 1 - Dated Friday, December 27th, 2024.
Overall, a very promising start to EP 1. I personally am a big fan of the older/ugly bastard genre, and thus far, SpaceBall has been heading in a good direction with his newest release 'Space Cadettes'.
Pros:
+
Great diversity in character routes. The diversity of different characters that can corrupt both Jenna and River was pleasing to see. Variety is the spice after all, and I like the way the corruption elements are shaping up to be here. Unlike some of SpaceBall's previous game entries, I think Space Cadettes is doing a lot better on the "
slow burn" mechanics of the game to see the main FMCs slowly get corrupted into oblivion once the main plot gets rolling.
+
Setting of the AVN. I'm also a big sucker for sci-fi-themed AVNs, and I do love the overall vibes that Space Cadettes is portraying here. It's unique, and the lore behind the game is also quite intriguing to me. I.e., how the galactic federation was formed, learning more about the truth behind Jenna's parent's disappearance, and exploring new planets in the galaxy and carrying out new missions. Overall, the whole exploration aspect of the game (i.e., despite being a kinetic novel) was still quite nice to observe and play through.
+
Character/Model Designs/Renders - I love how all the main FMC models look in the game. Renders look clean and polished for the most part. Jenna's/River's/Ava's models all look nice and quite proportioned in a healthy sense (i.e., not having overly sized boobs that are comical in nature), and their body types all look quite similar to how a healthy woman in her 20s body shape would appear to be. Very realistic.
Areas for improvement:
- A few grammatical errors here and there that might need a bit of touchup for proofreading. Nothing too major though, but would be good to review grammar for completeness for any future version updates.
- The game currently has no audio. Not a big deal in my opinion for now, but perhaps in later versions of the game, SpaceBall could consider adding some ambient space exploration tracks for whenever Jenna/River/Ava is exploring some alien planet just to introduce some immersiveness for players reading through the AVN.
Final thoughts:
Overall, love the direction that Space Cadettes is heading. I look forward to reading more about how EP 2 will progress, as EP 1 is quite short (i.e., probably around 30-45 min in length) and no sex scenes implemented just yet. Albeit, it is an initial release, and I feel that there will be more ugly bastard shenanigans in store for future updates. Can't wait!
~ May the schwartz be with you all!
