As of the 29th Steam now requires ages verification to access adult games in the UK. The verification is done via credit card information. This is the latest in the cycle of attempted censorship of adult content in the UK.
How would you recommend Steam verify age is over 18 for ADULT content?

Also, if this is UK-only (and other jurisdictions with similar laws), it means they are attempting to comply with the law.

Everyone asking for anything can fuck off.
I'll just start pirating my steam games too lol if this begins to apply to other types of game.
UK already has the strictest piracy laws too, IDK where this is going, And people will be in bigger trouble if they start hoarding all these games, pirated or not

Steam already has my CC, name, address, etc for purchases. I'm pretty much verified by default just as a user.
You're really 16 using your mom's info. IYKYK.
Bit irritating that having a 20 year old email account is not acceptable proof of being over 18.

They say I could have gotten it off me Dad. Just because I have access to his email account, doesn't mean I wear his clothes...

I'm also not a fan of using a cc as some kind of lame proof for online age verification. I think it is inefficient, ineffective, and discriminatory. There are better, though more intrusive, ways.

Yeah but an undershirt is not quite the same as an email. For starters, undershirts existed alongside my Dad. Email accounts did not!
Your dad passed away before 1993?

Like you, my current email account is over 20 years old. I still have access to my 30 year old email account, too. I have my passwords written in a safe, next to my will, for my adult children to access after I pass away -- should there need to be anything looked at to close my estate.

So, minor children today could easily have access to their parents' 20+ year old email account... Particularly if they already have access to use their parents' credit cards for occasional online purchases.

Both credit card and email age lack as acceptable age verification online, in my opinion. just like an old t shirt, it has holes.

Umm, you say yourself that your ADULT children have access to your email when you cark it. Even so, they may find things in there that make them reassess their views of ol' Pops Morado :D

So no, minors do not have access, and yes, a 20 year old email account is about the best proof of age that you're going to get. Everything has holes, even us.

Yeah,as how many kids use their parents' cards for stuff? I mean lots?

I guess the "UK" addresses in my VPN are quite useless now :poop:

So effectively this amounts to a zero trust situation.

All online purchases should be stopped because we can't valid the person hitting "buy now" is that person, and all purchases must be accompanied by some sort of network connected ID scan to validate government issued ID and no other ID is allowed.

Amazon would need to stop, and so on and so on. Adult orders aren't any worse than someone spending money against the money holders wishes and will cause them financial harm and result in likely refund no more than a Steam buy as an adult or non-adult game.

The only allowed purchase would be in-person purchases following ID validation and approval.

I understand where you are coming from, but the end result is internet buying would need to be terminated.
