Piracy is going to exist no matter what, it's not something that can really be prevented. Imo a lot of people do not know about this site or do not trust it or genuinely wish to support the creators so game devs who are aware of this probably hope we'll buy their game(which very often we actually do, me included).also, i have a general question since im still wondering about this, why do game creators seem fine with their games being on here? like the other day i saw a game creator themself commenting on progress on such despite this forum being a pirating forum
usually, piracy doesn't really harm big games who have a big audience. for small games with a niche audience, piracy could indeed be a big loss for the dev.Piracy is going to exist no matter what, it's not something that can really be prevented. In the development phase sites like these also serve as decent feedback, people can play demos and find bugs practically like we're paid to do so, things like that help the devs.
Moreover, any publicity is good publicity, many of us when unsure of whether or not we'll like a game will simply not buy it/ignore it which wont bring the creator profits either ways, sites like this allow us to get a taste of the demos.
Other reasons also exist probably, I just don't know of them.
Doesn't mean this is good either, but as the Ultrakill dev HakitaDev on twitter said: "You should support indies if you can, but culture shouldn't exist only for those who can afford it."
The game will be pirated anyway. It will be all over these sites (otomi, ryuu, svscomics) that pirate h-games in the ci-en/dl-site/patreon space. The reason most creators are ok with that is that the game is getting more publicity and traffic. This is a pirate forum, but it is also a FORUM, as opposed to many of the other sites out there. A lot of the h-game chatter and traffic online goes to reddit, F95 and ULMF. If games pop up here it means more visibility. In a world where there is a new h-game releasing every other day this visibility bonus is huge, especially since traditional social media often prohibit or restrict 18+ content and do put restrictions on the tags involved, so if you get too much attention on more mainstream media patreon might kick you for having content they deem prohibited (incest, non-con, etc.). Plus, this forum actually lists the patreon pages and other support sites for the devs/creators. The main way I for example even get to know about new games is F95. That often converts initial pirates into occasional or regular monthly supporters. The devs need money for the development since they do not have a budget. Some of them might even want to make a living and quit or reduce their main job as a result. You can only achieve that with enough publicity and convincing people your game isnt trash. Sites like F95 are a platform to put your demos out and monitor what people think about your game without them having to be Patreon supporters. Its little nuggets of content given out at irregular intervals (whenever it's leaked) - which is the most effective form of psychological conditioning - intermittent conditioning (means people will come back for a long time even with very irregular leaks). Most creators for h-games also regularily give out demos or have public releases (very common for western h-games) 1 week or 1 month after the Early Access patreon releases. That is a way to keep people coming back for more even if they are not yet supporting. That means the loss of having a game version leaked is technically only a reduction in next months paycheck. And even that isnt completely true. I have supported creators before while they didnt realease any content, then had it canceled for personal budget reasons just for them to release content. Then F95 and other places are here to make me not regret that, because I know it sometimes gets leaked there. The other way around I also had times where I waited for an update of a dev to be leaked just for it to not happen and me getting so impatient that I actually subscribed to the creator to get the update.also, i have a general question since im still wondering about this, why do game creators seem fine with their games being on here? like the other day i saw a game creator themself commenting on progress on such despite this forum being a pirating forum
It could, tho most of the time it doesn't. The marketing of word of mouth does more to increase the pledges and sales numbers than it does to reduce them, at least in this h-game niche imo. Its different fro Indie Games released on Steam that dont have kickstarter campaigns or patreon pages with early access, they do suffer if these games are pirated at launch. But they are generally also pirated less, because non-h Indie Games are generally valued more than h-games and they are also seen as underdogs that a lot of people want to support. They are normally the most consumer friendly and they have lower prices (15-25$ per full game). As Gabe Newell once said, piracy is mainly a service issue.usually, piracy doesn't really harm big games who have a big audience. for small games with a niche audience, piracy could indeed be a big loss for the dev.
I mostly agree with you, especially about visibility and how forums like this function as discovery hubs rather than pure piracy sinks. That said, I would add that the bigger underlying problem is the state of the adult game market itself. The game will be pirated anyway. Either way, in the end it's also that many of us can only support 2 or 3 creators per month at best, even less if access costs as much as a Netflix subscription. If we didnt have access here we would probably drop 80% of the other creators and stop paying attention to them (not even realizing when their game releases) for the 1 or 2 creators that we think are really promising. Do that a few times and be disappointed by the result or see a game being abandoned and you'll stop paying money for that. Thanks to places like F95 we can keep track of all these projects. And 1 or 2 months patronage to a creator is often as much as their game would cost on launch anyway (since most non AAA games - espcially in the h-game niche - only go for 15-20 bucks). So they are making way more money if you just pledge one or two times throughout their entire development cycle than they would just developing the game and then releasing it.
Last but not least, on this forum devs can specifically request please not to leak the new versions and mods wil (sometimes) help and delete said posts.
