Hi all,

I decided to make a new game with ren'py but you know i have a low graphics card , but after researching some threads i have managed to get decent images not some UHD photo realistic images but some what good enough to see ;)

And i have seen that some games are popular even without good graphics so what do you like the most is it the images or the story

(Site related help i want to delete one of my thread. Can anyone point me the guide thank you)

Also vote in the poll please it could help me motivated.

Something to consider is that if you don't have the hardware to render, you could always render the old fashion way (with your hands). You can just use Daz or any number of other tools to come up with characters and poses, but then instead of doing a full render, just take a screen grab or do a low quality fast render and then just paint over it in a 2D package.

There is actually a pretty nice looking program specifically for generating base reference images for such purposes: . I haven't had a chance to play with it myself, but based on what I've seen from some review videos, it's way easier and faster to come up with poses with than Daz and the like.

Also worth considering, even though people around here love to push the idea of rendering at 4K as a must, that is a total waste of resources in most cases. If your system can manage 1080p, or even just 720p, then go with one of those instead. You definitely can get better results starting a size above your target and downsampling, but you don't have to go crazy with it. 720p is still a super popular resolution and stretching it to fit the higher resolutions has pretty marginal artifacts that most won't even be able to see, including many who insist they can the moment they hear that you are using something less than their native resolution, heh.

To me, bad images can be saved by a good story. But good images won't save a bad story or writing. Just my opinion

without a good story people wont bother, or they will just skim through it all.
would you rather have people play for the game ( different routes ) or just click fast to the next scene, or pull the files out of the directory and just look at that

That's the wrong question, the real questions would be: what's the kind of game are you trying to make and what are your greatest talents? It would be easy to say one or the other, but each games and developer have their own strengths, take a game like Big Brother for example, nobody plays it for the story, it's all about the renders, on the other hand games like TiTs can do text only and still be insanely popular.

Story, hands down. I didn't come to games for their insane quality or because I have a Daz render fetish, I came to games because they offered something traditional porn media doesn't, and that's the emotional investment that comes with story. I find porn difficult if I can't relate to the situations and people involved. I often find myself clicking away from vids because they're breaking what little immersion I'm able to find in them.

That said, just because the story is infinitely more important doesn't mean the art gets to take a back seat. This is a visual story telling medium. When I write for my own games I'm writing with the knowledge that most, if not all the narration is going to be done by the images themselves. I want you to be able to read the dialogue and from context clues and what is present in the image, be able to determine exactly what's going on, without handholding narration. Rule number one of visual storytelling is show, don't tell. So the best story will work hand in hand with the art to tell it's story in the best way possible.

That doesn't mean that your art has to be on the level of Milfy City though. You just need an interesting plot and art that works together with it. Some of my favorite games have mediocre art, but they have a good story, and the art helps to tell it.

That's a horrible example. Big Brother has maybe 10 renders per scene and they're all blocked, as if DS has never seen porn and has no fucking idea how to show sex in a sexually gratifying way.

They are both important. However I would choose good looking cg over a good story. I wouldn't do the opposite. If the story is terrible (which is subjective really at least more so than what good cg looks like) but the art is good maybe that can get me off. Can't say the same for the opposite scenario.

Story story story. I follow games with excellent art but usually I skip the dialogues and watch only the dirty stuff. A good story, especially if it's funny, can keep me interested. I think adult games belong in two separate categories. Fap games and not fap games. The first need great artwork. The latter need great story.
