The game has a lot of heart and beautiful art, but as an H-game I just can't get anything out of it. All of the sex scenes are non-canon defeat scenes, which is a dealbreaker for me. You might as well make a regular rpg and include a zip folder of hentai pngs that people can look at if they feel like.

Great humor, decent scenes, and unique art style. Issue is, "puzzle" might be an understatement. Combat is extremely punishing. Many, if not all, enemies have some form of Win condition; whether it be a one shot or take over. I really tried to dance around the skills this game provides, but forcing a reset every single fight just...wasn't fun for me at least.

The game does provide an easy mode sword at the beginning, allowing you to enjoy the story and one shot enemies... except it doesn't kill all enemies despite what the item says. It sucks that I, the player, feel the need to use the easy mode just to play the game.

Think the dev wanted combat to be the puzzle, but it doesn't feel that way.

There are some type of stories that would catch your attention right from the get-go. For me, Stygian Flowers was one of them. Starting a story trying to make it a good one is hard on its own, so I think Viroa did something special managing to introduce the story and its main character in such an unusual way.
It's my favourite type of a fantasy story - where everyting, or most of things, is absurd, but still makes enough sense for the given situation. It allows for all the things: artistic expression (to tell and picture anything that comes to mind), narrative choices (establishing characters and lore), and, most importantly, freedom from the overused tropes. For once, we were blessed with an amazing story, with lovable characters in an unusual setting.

Don't even get me started on gameplay. The boredom of grinding and senseless upgrade of one's character by equipping biggest stick is gone! Surprisingly, it was one of the best design choices I've seen applied to the engine. The battles are meaningful and interesting, progressively getting harder as you get further along the story. I'm more than sure I finished at least a few of these not the "intended" way, given I managed to win by the skin of my teeth - balancing allows it just barely, still requiring you to make (mostly) right decisions. Figuring out the strategy was challenging and fun. If you like puzzle games or deck building games you'll like the gameplay.

Overall, 9/10, game too short I want more  .
Of course I understand why there is no "more" (yet?), and any day of the week would I have such well polished but shorter game over a long one yet consisting of meaningless filler content.

Great change compared to the usual RPG grind fest. If you dont choose to use the broadsword that is offered to you in the begining of the game, you need to plan every fight using all skills given to you. Most fights require you to lose a few times to either understand their pattern or find out its gimmick. Personally chose to take the reset skill stone (Not sure how it would be possible to not on your first playthrough) and gave a great amount of challenge to complete all content of the game. Characters and story were interesting enough and CGs were also great with most revolving around futa or tentacles. overall a 9/10!

One of the rare hentai games that really feel like a labor of love, with great aesthetics, endeering characters and a fun setting.
As advertised, there is no leveling or grinding, and you enter each turn based battle with all the tools you need to win, you just have to figure out how.
Each fight grants you a rapey defeat scene, though something about the style or presentation makes the sexual violence not too depressing.
The scenes are basically the usual 2dcg thing, one picture with changing expressions and a cumshot at the end, but they're varied enough to keep my interest, and the artstyle is just wonderful.

There may be games with better fap material, or games that don't make you work as much for the content, but it's rare that i find something with this much soul. Give it a try.

sure the story and fighting is a bit unique, characters and dialogue are interesting.

but H-scenes are still pictures, with medium length talking, some different frames (cum->no cum, full penetration ->no penetration. 1person or more. etc) the art looks fine as you see but the still pictures makes the H-scenes very boring.

sure there are some interesting fetishes and situations, but in the story if you lose it basically reverts back to before you lost, so like it never happened. (even though there is sometimes dialogue about it like it did happen) so imo these things make it completely unfappable since basically losing is like an imaginary never happened dream, and even that dream is with still pictures, so there is no corruption element or experience or anything about H-scenes.

so with H-scenes being extremely mediocre, i cannot give it more than 3.

but the game is interesting, in fighting you don't get levels, you can get skillpoints against some enemies. there are no "random" mobs, everything is specifically placed. every enemy needs a strategy, you can freely rearrange your skillpoints whenever you want outside of fighting, so basically you can make a strong all around character(s) and sometimes you have to lose against someone to learn their patterns/weaknesses then you can strategize how to beat them with your available skills.

as a fun little game it's passable, although im not that interested, but as a porn game it is 1/5. 1/5 because it's unfappable. even if the art is cute/nice

5 stars if you use the broadsword. otherwise, it is a pretty unplayable game.
I love how it's drawn, and the h scenes are great too. the story is very interesting and I found myself reading all the dialogue and interacting with all the stuff around me

Very well made game. Even though art style is very simple it is enjoyable and gives the game personality. I'm not a Futa enjoyer but the scenes in this game were acceptable. Many great Loli scenes mean this is a perfect game for degenerates like me.

I love this game so much its absolutely phenomenal 11/10

ART 10/10 you can see from the screenshots just how high quality it is. There is plenty of different positions and fetishes in this.

GAMEPLAY11/10 while it is an RPGM game it is the best RPGM game I have ever had the pleasure of playing. Each battle was challenging and forced you to think of different strategies. The maps all had hidden little secrets and puzzles that were really fun to explore. The NPCs were entertaining and added to the ambience of the whole game. I have genuinely never had so much fun playing a RPGM game honestly I had more fun with this then most games in general that have come out.

CHARACTERS 11/10 All of the characters were entertaining and made me laugh multiple times. Their personalities were all unique in their own way and they complemented each other immensely. The conversations between the characters felt natural. Like I said earlier the NPCs were all great.

STORY 10/10 I was almost tempted to rae this a 9/10 because there was a subplot that was not explained well but I believe that it was that way on purpose and was overall great. Now the main story was an absolute treat to play mostly because of how good the characters were. The ending twist was great and the different endings were both satisfying.

MUSIC 10/10 its not the typical RPGM music it has a lot of classical music and it goes super well with the game.

Overall 11/10 I had a blast playing this I 100% recommend it. It is one of the few games that I have actually bought myself I believe it is only 15 or so dollars on itch.io. Great game I can't wait to see what else Viroa comes up with.

Art is straight 10/10, the gameplay much less boring than I feared it to be, it actually forces you to get creative sometimes. It also allows players who are just here for the scenes to progress without any henderance. Top notcj game honestly with amazing characters.

5/5 Star, this game is what i called "turn based game" ..
u prepare strat if u lose repeat until one of u strat win..
u can see "H - Scene" with lose on purpose, but where fun is that when u can win the enemey with u brain..
with my honest opinion this basically what if "Soul like game in turn based rpg with hentai scene when u fucking lose to the enemy"
10/10 will cry again with that motherfucking tentacle bastard

Not dull af gameplay without any grind in my rpgmaker game? Ability to change anything at any point of the game? Infinite consumables? Secrets and a few eastereggs? Count me in! Plays more like a puzzle which is a major + for me

This game is legitimately fun. The old school RPG feel fits perfectly with the art style. Some parts aren't always the most intuitive, especially with some of the backtracking that is required. But I still really enjoyed the game.

    Siderophilia

Hello, my name is Siderophilia and I have played Stygian Flowers v0.3.1 by Viroa.

Stygian flowers is an RPG focused on a series of boss encounters, starring a cute white-haired girl who goes to the underworld to bring back her friend.

As a turn-based RPG it holds up very well. The nature of the game means there is zero reason or even possibility to grind. Instead the game incentivizes thinking through your skill setup (with the possibility to respec freely) and developing individual strategies for each individual battle. With the first two battles serving as something of a tutorial, from that point onward the balance of every single fight is finely tuned to make it possible with a decent range of builds but always retaining the challenge. If this isn't your cup of tea I think the game is far less enjoyable. Even though the author was kind enough to offer an option to automatically win every fight, I think resorting to that on more than sporadic occasions largely removes the most satisfying part of the game and leaves a rather lackluster experience. If I have any criticism it's that the battles sometimes become a little too reliant on memorizing enemy attack patterns, to the point that you can sometimes feel like you're actively hurting your progress by changing your builds, since it will also occasionally affect enemy attack patterns.

The assets for the game seem fitting although some maps look much more barren than others. On the other hand, a lot of the time the strength of the environments is the way the author manages to create a vivid environment with limited assets, not least seen in the beginning of the second act. In fact a lot of the most likeable components of the game, the challenge factor of the battles and impressive environment design, don't really become apparent until the second act. The game also has a music track which fits surprisingly well into the atmosphere, and right from the opening menu, the game manages to nail a certain tone which it consistently keeps through the whole journey.

As far as writing goes, the language is excellent, not only correct but also displaying a rather impressive use of vocabulary without stepping over the line to sounding pretentious. The story is a well known trope but it hasn't been overdone in this type of games, and the setting and cast of characters is interesting enough. However this is also where my core criticism comes in, which is that the game suffers quite a bit from being a decent game with the porn tacked on, rather than the porn being woven into the narrative. The majority of the scenes don't really feel connected to the setting of the game to any extent. This becomes most evident upon losing the third battle (Yes, why is the MC in a schoolgirl outfit? I guess the author just wanted it that way). The way you're immediately thrown back to before the battle, while streamlining gameplay (which is much appreciated), also sort of gives the impression that these things aren't happening to the MC canonically. It might just be that I'm a corruption enthusiast and would like to see more lasting impressions of sexual encounters while the author set out to do something else, but even so I can't shake the feeling that a lot of sex scenes are only loosely connected to what goes on during the rest of the game. Most of the scenes also kind of feel like their "own thing" and so far it's unclear if there is any core fetish to the game. With the very well done dark atmosphere to the game as a whole, some of the scenes despite their non-consensual nature feel almost a little cute and vanilla in comparison.

In summary, Stygian Flowers is an excellent game with some nice porn in it. If you enjoy the RPG genre and often find yourself frustrated by grindy and poorly balanced combat in other porn RPGs, this is a strong recommendation. 5/5

Gorgeous art, great dialog and difficult but fun battles. If you like the genre/tags this game shows, this is a must play.

as of 0.3.1 this game can be finished under an hour for some juicy CGs. Stop reading reviews and go for it.

Great art and very good CGs

The gameplay is really hard but not unbeatable. I got through all the main bosses after a few tries even without learning the parry mechanic.

Definitely would keep an eye out for this.

Cute art and fun character designs, combat is a bit simple earlygame but not terrible. Really surpassed my expectations. Hope the Patreon gestapo doesn't go after the dev for loli or he suddenly goes "missing" like with other promising projects.

Seeing as nobody else has thrown their hat in the ring yet:

Played v0.2.0 and enjoyed it quite a bit.

Gameplay is fun, the fights are tough but I managed to beat all the enemies currently available without understanding some very fundamental aspects of the gameplay. Like how I could re-spec all the party members and that there are attack patterns that I could have used to make the Parry mechanic work, which I also didn't utilize much.

Wouldn't exactly blame the game for that, I skipped a lot of dialogue.

The art currently stands out to me. Initially I actually thought that the game was further into development than it actually is, based on the quality of the art.

I find the defeat scenes equally enjoyable and they don't drag on for very long. Which might be a plus for some but not others.

Overall, will be happy to see where this goes from here.
