Superb. Amazing. Jaw-dropping. Dare I say, flawless?
Story: 5/5
This is where I figured Succubus Advent would lose me. I saw the bolded warning on the game's overview how there are choices that lead to the main character's death and made assumptions about the games tone and tenor. I'm glad I decided to give it a shot because this game does a great job of keeping the feel of the game light and humorous enough to soften those sorts of edges.
Succubus Advent's story is engaging, contains unexpected twists, and has great pacing. It does a good job of creating an existential threat, not falling into the completely good vs. completely evil sides that many stories do. There are wrinkles, characters who buck expectations, etc. Overall a wonderful medium to transport you from sexy scene to sexy scene.
Characters and Dialogue: 5/5
The characters and their personalities all shine. Each one feels unique, real, and have layers to them. Sure, they all pretty much conform to tropes (to an extend, at least) but they've always been more than just that. Like the plot, there are wrinkles to the characters that keep them from being one note.
The only complaint I'd have in this department is the protagonist, but it's only right at the start (his initial interactions with his sister). Outside of the first 5ish minutes I can't say I've had anymore issues with the protagonist.
Sex Scenes/Animations: 5/5
I really can't stress this enough. The special effects/lighting are out of this world. I absolutely love it in a visual sense. It does ever so slightly distract from the eroticism of the scene, but honestly... It's so good it just works. The animations are awesome, you get tail motion, wing flaps, facial expressions, it's just not just the bodies moving. Breast physics could be dialed up a touch, but still, the overall presentation is nothing short of spectacular.
Yes, there are game over scenes but they're handled in such a way that, at least to me, they're not a turn off (and I'm generally put off by such scenes). The dialogue/personalities presented in each scene are handled well and extremely hot.
Important note, there are sex sounds in this game (moist, skin on skin sounds), which is always important to me. One of the scenes has some background music that is slightly distracting, but at this point I'm just nitpicking.
Gameplay/Combat: 4.5/5
I'm really tempted to give this a 5/5, but the combat doesn't do anything amazing. There's a leveling system, a skill tree, you can change primary weapons, use health pots, and that's about it. Thankfully there's no grind. I've come across one boss so far that's difficult to beat, but after 15ish minutes of fighting I'd gotten the weapon/levels I needed to take him out.
There are screens where progression requires you clicking magnifying glasses on the screen, but it's never much and always works in the story's favor.
Final Verdict: 5/5
It feels pretty much impossible to give this game anything less than a 5 star rating, both on it's own and compared to the other games on this site. Honestly, had I played this a year or two ago, a lot of my game ratings would drop my .5 stars. This game really makes me reconsider what is excellent vs what is just good, and softens my stance on the use of ai cg.
I'm going to have a hard time waiting for future updates. Honestly, this might be one I just ignore for the next year or two, then come back and start fresh with lots more content. When games are this amazing it's really difficult to wait in between updates.
I know times are tough for most people, but these are the sorts of games you support. I just sub'd to the creator's patreon.
