Status Update #61


Hello there!

This week we've continued filling in the gaps with missing content and placeholders. Mostly things like drawings and alt angle renders for the perspective button that sometimes shows up in the top right. We've also been editing a lewd scene for better consistency and flow. There were also some all around fixes, post-processing of renders and making a new Android test version.

Next week we'll be editing a hotdog scene and implementing some of the planned changes for it. We changed it previously to make it more interactive, and that part now needs some extra love so it makes sense again. It turned into a bit of a mess. The polish has done it again.


How is the update?

"When update?" is becoming very relevant again, and it's in our thoughts daily at this point. Things tend to slow down quite a bit as we move on to the lovely polishing stage that earns us the feedback we often get. At this stage there aren't many "fun" things to show or poll. The things left are mostly technical or spoilers, both of which we'd like to avoid sharing in the status updates. However, the update is currently at over 4k renders and about double that in animation frames for video production.

That's not where the work ends unfortunately. We're always trying to keep the post-production/polishing simple. It's not always super efficient, but the outcome tends to be acceptable. Our approach to this was... quite different before 0.5. And in many ways, the long form we've been trying these past few updates has hindered us a lot. In all honesty, short form might be a better fit for us. And we've got a fix coming up for this, which is that the updates are no longer going to have a set end point that we're working towards. Instead the updates will have simple render-based goals, and you can chain several updates together if you want to wait for more content.

If it is any comfort, the next update will have new sexual content with main girls. The kind that people have been requesting for a while now. We thought it was obvious, but we probably could've made that point more clear. That's our bad, we haven't explicitly said whether you'll get to bang Helen or the others since it's a spoiler. But, reaching the lewd and sexual content has been our goal for 0.7, and that will continue being a goal for the next few updates since that content can be reached within the render goal. So in that sense, the update is doing good. Hopefully it'll play out that way too. And don't worry, there's also some plot for those who don't like girls.

Decent yeah. On the other hand, a timespan like this should realistically be able to produce around 10,000 renders. I know the team might not work that efficiently yet or hasn’t found a workflow that allows them to reach those numbers. But you have to compare it with other AVNs and their development cycles. There are some that perform even worse, but there are also plenty that take a similar amount of time and still deliver 8,000 to 10,000 renders. So measured against the timeframe, it’s decent—yes, but nothing more than that.

I'm eagerly waiting you at the off topic section to back up your claim with actual examples

They have admitted it. Some time back they posted an example image of a black top over a dark bra where there was a small section where the bra was clipping through the shirt fabric, so they had to go back in and manually fix it. This is something that probably nobody would notice (I had a hard time seeing it and they even said where to look) but they are so OCD about every little thing that they have to stop progress elsewhere to fix something like that.

This is something that probably nobody would notice (I had a hard time seeing it and they even said where to look) but they are so OCD about every little thing that they have to stop progress elsewhere to fix something like that.

That kind of OCD is fine, but they really need to do that kind of work after the release. i.e., get the update out, then work for a few weeks fixing things including clipping errors before moving to the next episode.

In the previous page there was this trash AI animation where Bree and sophie undress and the t-shirt goes through Bree's neck. trust me, people would notice that if that was in-game , it looked horrible

may be, I mean there are lots of people who hold ctrl and finish an update in 5 minute.
Joke aside, I dont know, I know that when I creat a female MC in a video game, I get OCD if she has not have the perfect make-up or lipstic, or hair, etc, so I can't imagen what is like for an actual developers

except last time the progression with Eve and Kate was backwards, so they have to get back to where we were previously to advance further ...

OUTSTANDING output in DAZ is about 10 renders a day for a SINGLE full time dev. This takes into account writing, pose, lighting, then render. Don't inflate numbers, 10 is VERY VERY GOOD and even HS devs who don't hafta worry bout render times can barely hit this mark. My personal metric would be 50 renders a week. 454 days from Sept 1st 2024 to today, yall do the math.

Numbers get muddy if the projects have a tendency to reuse shots but from diff angles or POV face shots of just mouths moving, etc. Don't even consider animations, cuz this is where devs will inflate numbers. I can make one animation and double the framerate from 30 to 60 and boom I just doubled my render count.

The actually issue with SH is the plot progression is paced very poorly given its render count. It 100% shows off the visuals, but often doesn't progress plot or character in meaningful ways. Its why updates feel lacking regardless and why the toaster became a meme. So always take render count with a grain a salt.

For a split second, I honestly thought they were making a funny allusion to a sex scene with the MC getting an assjob, when they said "hotdog scene"...but then I remembered the toaster and I just got disappointed.

The actually issue with SH is the plot progression is paced very poorly given its render count. It 100% shows off the visuals, but often doesn't progress plot or character in meaningful ways. Its why updates feel lacking regardless and why the toaster became a meme. So always take render count with a grain a salt.

The toaster meme is going to get replaced by the hotdog scene. I can see it already. New meme incoming.
