Early on in the game, when setting up the dating app on your phone, you have to click to say if you're seeking men or women. When you click women, it automatically switches it to men. There is nothing you can do to avoid this, it is a joke put in by the devs, although you get it fixed shortly after so you can view the profiles of women.

So yes, there is such a joke in the game.
You don't have to tell me what's in the game of all people^^. I just misunderstood what they were talking about.

It doesn't matter. I can tell (now) that our boy John7 was messing around and i just got baited anyway :]

This VN is the best there is when its comes to aesthetics, renders, expressions and all that. It is trying to present itself like art, thats why all the 'pointless' eye movements, subtle expressions that take up all the render count and slow down the pacing. I like this VN just because of that, cuz it looks beautiful as fuck,....and Eve, those realistic and beautiful Eve renders are the best part. Thats why Im letting the long dev time slide if the outcome is good. I'll probably forget this VN ever existed in the next year or something but that'd be even better for me tbh. The problem is the devs are very active in this thread, and I dont want all the negative, harmful and braindead opinions to affect their workflow and distract them from their vision. Like these people want the devs to rush to the sex scenes of the main girls, like...let them take their time? Please? The fault will be yours if the VN doesnt reach its full potential. The devs should act like dr pink cake and ignore all the howling non payers entirely and focus on their own craft and vision.
As always, the problem is I like devs being active on F95, but then I see all the negativity on threads and well, it's better if they stay out, for their sake.

Status Update #61

Hello there!

This week we've continued filling in the gaps with missing content and placeholders. Mostly things like drawings and alt angle renders for the perspective button that sometimes shows up in the top right. We've also been editing a lewd scene for better consistency and flow. There were also some all around fixes, post-processing of renders and making a new Android test version.

Next week we'll be editing a hotdog scene and implementing some of the planned changes for it. We changed it previously to make it more interactive, and that part now needs some extra love so it makes sense again. It turned into a bit of a mess. The polish has done it again.

How is the update?

"When update?" is becoming very relevant again, and it's in our thoughts daily at this point. Things tend to slow down quite a bit as we move on to the lovely polishing stage that earns us the feedback we often get. At this stage there aren't many "fun" things to show or poll. The things left are mostly technical or spoilers, both of which we'd like to avoid sharing in the status updates. However, the update is currently at over 4k renders and about double that in animation frames for video production.

That's not where the work ends unfortunately. We're always trying to keep the post-production/polishing simple. It's not always super efficient, but the outcome tends to be acceptable. Our approach to this was... quite different before 0.5. And in many ways, the long form we've been trying these past few updates has hindered us a lot. In all honesty, short form might be a better fit for us. And we've got a fix coming up for this, which is that the updates are no longer going to have a set end point that we're working towards. Instead the updates will have simple render-based goals, and you can chain several updates together if you want to wait for more content.

If it is any comfort, the next update will have new sexual content with main girls. The kind that people have been requesting for a while now. We thought it was obvious, but we probably could've made that point more clear. That's our bad, we haven't explicitly said whether you'll get to bang Helen or the others since it's a spoiler. But, reaching the lewd and sexual content has been our goal for 0.7, and that will continue being a goal for the next few updates since that content can be reached within the render goal. So in that sense, the update is doing good. Hopefully it'll play out that way too. And don't worry, there's also some plot for those who don't like girls.

What we've done this week:

Battled with the Android version

Placeholder content finished

Answered a lot of messages

Sound effect work

Lists of what's still missing

Freeplay playtesting

Phone content testing

Ember fixes

Laptop fixes

Render post work

New renders

We also cooked up the monthly special of Bree since she dominated the poll this month. It will be up tomorrow.

Short update: a year for 40 minutes of gameplay

Long update: a year and a half for 45 minutes of gameplay

Simps are gonna simp. Where exactly did I mention SH needs to release faster? Where did I mention facial expression shots are in your words, not mine: 'pointless'? I'm just stating general facts about render output to paint a more reasonable picture. I didn't say specifically they were the culprits of inflating render count with diff angle shots or animations. It's just a general truth with dev/projects and I give them credit for the beauty of their renders. It's telling that you are filling in with assumptions around my words.

As for pacing issues. Good test is to imagine only reading SH without the renders, would you actually stay engaged. The overarching plot is... art school? Shady underdealings that start with money from a teacher and the ragtag team of students gotta figure it out? Did you know it has a 'horror' planned tag? None of these have progressed meaningfully. At most, it's porn slice of life and I'd wager you wouldn't stick around without the images. The love interests fall head over heels for you instantly without any great reason. So it's not even a slow burn.

I'll leave you with your own words:

Agreed wholeheartedly. The plot is weak. The abandoned warehouse and shady business at the strip club are tonally dissonant and disjointed from the primary story. Worse, they are completely unnecessary, detracting from time with the love interests without providing any interesting conflict to be resolved. Authors often equate the concept of plot conflict with 'major antagonists', but nothing could be further from the truth in a slice-of-life story. The plot conflict should have been relational, not external.

Perhaps Mike's immaturity could serve as the source of conflict, where the MC (player) needs to figure out how to manage his friendship with Mike without affecting his romantic relationships with the girl(s). To me, that would have been far more interesting than anything the devs have pursued and would represent a values test - abandon or betray Mike (disloyal), be loyal to Mike (at potential expense to relationships), try to change Mike (might not succeed), try to distract Mike (e.g., set him up with Helen, send him off for his own adventures with Miller, etc. ...). The undercurrents of this are already present (the text messaging, fucking Mia in the same room with Mike sleeping, etc.) but devs just don't commit.

Hey man don't be bringing that positivity to this page, who do you think you are?

What are the positive things from the last 17 months? I'll tell you: nothing. The developers haven't done anything tangible. There's nothing new to discuss—no plot, no character development. All you have are a few pretty renders and the fanfiction people create in their heads. That's what 'Summer Heat' is: a collage of nice renders and the fantasies people project onto them.

Yeah, a story of a guy navigating hot girl summer camp would be plenty enjoyable. I don’t need a mafia subplot of some kind. Seems every game adds one these days.

Agreed. Even further developing Ms. Hills antagonist nature with her sister is better then what we got.

4.000 render is decent.
For a normal dev, I might be tempted to agree with you, Chip. However, these guys are very dense in their render usage. For example:

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

Now, to be clear, I like that they do this. It makes the scenes feel natural. Some devs do a whole scene recycling 2 or 3 renders back and forth and I hate that. I'm just saying that 4,000 renders probably won't feel very substantial for them, compared so some other devs. They would have to double or triple that.

I'm surprised you picked those renders to make your point when they are similar but quite obviously different. You could have picked I don't know how many renders of Mike from the last update to more clearly demonstrate your point.

Regardless though, you're still talking a minimum 4000 clicks, depending on how the dialogue goes (it could be easily double that), so it is, by any metric, a "decent-sized" update at the very minimum. Your only real argument against that would be in terms of story and character progression, and we won't know about those until we get to play the update.

Plot is weak???

We are two days into a "few weeks" of summer camp. If anything there has been far to much plot squeezed into the two days we have spent at camp so far. Pleeeeeenty of time for actual plot stuff to happen left.
