Summer Pockets (I read reflection blue, the expansion) might be nice porn in some parallel reality, but I think finding it here is a good thing, if nothing else for difference factor. As far as Key (dev) goes, Little Busters is probably their best title, but this one isn't very far behind.
Positive:
- Very subtle and smart humor. The tropes are still there, but the irony is strong in this one. It's not "Haha funny", it's the "the penny dropped funny".
- Mini-games: There's Pokémon and table tennis, they connect to the story.
- All the advantages of a proper budget (production values). In particular the OST is pretty good.
- Good drama, allows for some strong emotions.
- All the girls and their routes are pretty good. The blonde one (tsumugi) even turned singer.
- The story is a lot more complex than people give it credit for, and the writing shows quality.
Negative:
- The story is a lot more complex than people give it credit for. Basically, putting "time travel", magical butterflies, astral projection, souls growing in inanimate objects, and some form of reincarnation together, is a tall order. Many just dismiss the entire thing, and I can't blame them (Key was too ambitious, with this one).
Score: Summer pockets is an 8/10, and if you want a VN that has cute girls, summer time, and room to do some crying (Nakige), than look no further. I will say that reading this casually doesn't sound like a good idea, but it's up to you.
