Surprised GDevelop isn't mentioned here more

I've been playing with different game engines since the Doom days and pixelated porn, and have explored quite a few different options for VN type stuff. Even paid for a few, and I have to say I'm a little surprised that I haven't seen much mention of GDevelop. I did a lot of Flash stuff back in the day (before Adobe got their grubby hands on it) and recently have been looking for something to fill that gap. Something easy, and light. With less focus on syntax and format, and more focus on making stuff.

So I've gotta say I'm surprised GDevelop hasn't been mentioned more. I know its not flashy like UE or Unity. And it doesn't have the indi allure of Godot. But as an alternative to Renpy or even RPG Maker, and it's ability for cross platform I'm kind of shocked it's not mentioned more. Esp, since it is free to use, and games made with it are free to sell.

Anyway if you haven't I suggest checking it out.

Indeed!
I guess their team is not too much on a marketing side because it's a really good product but sure lucks of attention.
Great alternative to ClickTeam and GameMaker Studio.

I messed around with it for a few hours and had half of a functional UI build from scratch. Reminds me a LOT of flash only without SVG and a fancy UI. I've spent more time with Renpy and turned out less.

So after a lot more playing around I decided Gdevelop wasn't for me. It's still great, and works really well. If all you want to do is 2D it's perfect. I had an openworldy/sanbox-ish VN GUI up and running an about a full day's worth of work. Think BB with a map.

The one drawback that kills it for me is expandability. There is currently no easy way to add content patches to games built with it. The project I'm working on I would like to be able to deliver content in smaller updates and not make people download one giant multi GB point release. However this should not deter anyone from using it. It is a really capable engine, and very easy to use once you get acclimated. It just doesn't fit my needs.
