Hi everyone! I’d like to share my first project called “Tales Unbound” (working title) – a nonlinear adventure RPG in a medieval fantasy world. This project is still very early in development and I’d post/update my progress here from time to time.
PREMISE
You will be in the shoes of a young commoner who has just arrived in a big town looking for a better life. Fortunately, this town has many things to offer. Whether you want to be a renowned mercenary or a peacekeeping town guard, the choice is yours. Along the way, you will encounter many damsels waiting for you to save their days and ready to reward you for your good deeds.
GAMEPLAY
Overview
In this game, your goal is to gain wealth and fame while also engaging in romantic relationships with the ladies of your choice. As stated previously, this game is intended to be nonlinear and your decisions actually matter. You can take a job as a town guard keeping the town safe, accepting quests from the residents as a mercenary, or exploring the wilderness looking for treasures. The jobs may also present you with random events and depending on your actions may have different outcomes. In between jobs, you can interact with the town residents, maintain relationships with them or enjoy leisure entertainment the town provides.
Exploration & Combat
In this game, exploration has two modes: Overview Mode and Free-Roaming Mode. In Overview Mode, you choose which path you want to go. Each path will present you with specific events (Resource Gathering, Skirmish, Random Encounters, Rest Area, and Major Event).
Free-Roaming Mode will only occur if you enter the Major Event path. In this mode, you will enter a certain area like goblin camps, bandits’ hideouts, mining caves, etc. In some area, there will be enemies lurking around and you can decide whether to fight them or avoid them completely.
The combat mechanic in this game is turn-based battles. You can gain various advantages or disadvantages in battle depending on your actions beforehand. For example, approaching the enemies from behind, will give you a preemptive attack.
Trait/Stats-based Mechanics
Traits or Stats value affect some outcomes in events or performances in battles. You can choose one of the starting traits that will give you unique advantages and can gain different traits later depending on your actions/decisions.
Leisure Activities
In between quests, you can take a break and explore the town and partake in leisure activities. You can go to the tavern and listening to rumors, building relationship with the town residents, or go to the brothel to release your pent-up desires.

Notes:
- I’m working in this project as a solo dev, which means art, programming, and writing are mostly done by me. I’m still new in each respective field and there might be some changes in art or writing style during the development. Constructive criticisms are much appreciated.
- Some scenes will have animation or will be animated later depending on my capabilities and resources.
